I haven't been there, but I was a sibling 8 years younger than my brother. My mom said she just hauled me to all of my brother's stuff. Babies don't care where they are! I actually feel like a 4+ year age gap seems easier than a closer age gap (other than having to go back to when life is harder!) because older kids are more self sufficient and trustworthy. My mom could leave my brother to do stuff at home while she cared for me, and because he was so much older she actually left him in charge of entertaining me why she showered or did laundry or whatever.

My first two are 22 months apart, but if/when we have a third, there will be at least a 3 year age gap - probably closer to 4.

Similarly, my middle brother and I are 21 months apart, but my youngest brother and I are 6.5 years apart and he and the middle brother are 4.5 years apart. My mom said it was fine - great, even - to have a little baby and two bigger kids. We still loved to play with him, and we were super helpful and didn't need much direction. It was only during our teenage years that it was probably harder and a little isolating for him, because he was in elementary school and we just didn't have much in common. But unless you have stair step children (all 1-2 years apart in age, which OMG no I couldn't do that with more than 2) that's going to be the case.

My little brother and I are 5 years apart, and my mom always said my brother grew up with two moms! We're close as adults now, too. My parents said "starting over" with a baby was hard in a sense, but they only had to deal with one daycare bill and one kid in diapers at a time.
