Our dogs have an absurd amount of toys. Sadly, they are all in horrible condition because our Golden destroys them within minutes. I'm worried he will do the same to LO's toys. How did you train your dogs to know the difference between their toys and LO's toys?

Great question. I bought our baby on the way a stroller toy last night and was showing DH. Our poop pup thought I got him something new.

I don't have a kid yet but I'm planning on setting anything on the ground that is baby's and telling her "leave it" and giving her a treat when she does. Hopefully with enough repetition she'll get the idea that these other toys/blankets/whatever aren't hers! She is an obsessive sniffer, so her nose gets things all wet haha. Going to try to avoid that!

our dogs knew the command "leave it" and are pretty good with it. so when they first came into contact with LO's toys, i would say "leave it" (and sometimes nudge their faces away)--amazingly they got the picture and have not been going after LO's toys.

Lots of "NO! Drop it! That's not yours!" haha Eventually, they realized that they have to share everything on the floor w/ DD, but they'll pick one up every now and then when they're playing and excited.
