My five year old is getting his second shot on Saturday and I'm wondering how he might feel. He didn't even have arm pain with Dose #1. Obviously every kid is different, just seeing how the side effects are!

My DD had her second shot on Monday. After the first one she had a sore arm for a few days, was tired, had a headache, and had chills. After the second dose her arm was sore just over 24 hours.

My kiddos got theirs yesterday. Neither one seems affected beyond a sore arm! This was the same for the first shot for them. Good luck!

All my mom group is reporting the same for their kids... just a sore arm, maybe a little tired! Nice!

This is good to hear! I was debating whether to change the appointment to when they were on christmas break for fear of missing school

My six year old only had a sore arm too. I’m glad the side effects have seemed pretty mild for the kids so far!

DS1 (9) had a slight fever and generally blah for 24 hours (starting about 18 hours after shot) DS2(6) just had a sore arm for a day.

@Mommy Finger: since DS1 had a fever, I wouldn’t have been able to send him to school the next day (but we had shot 2 the day before Thanksgiving), so it is a consideration.

Just sore arms for both kids (ages 6 and 9) with both doses. Most people I’ve talked to reported the same - one of my friends said her two had slightly elevated temps and were a bit tired after shot 2.

My 6yo had zero side effects either shot. My 9yo had a low fever (like 99.5) the next day but felt fine after some Advil. I think she had more of a sore arm the first shot.

Just a sore arm for shot #1 and sore arm/stomach ache for shot #2 for my 9 year old.

@Jess1483: Yeah, I think I"m going to change it. We are only going to see family that I'm comfortable with over Christmas break so I'm not worried about the 2 week wait before the big day.

We've only had shot #1 here but did anybody else find their kids were exhausted emotional messes later that day? I feel like it's more likely a letdown after a stressful experience than the actual vaccine but that night my five year old was sitting in the bathtub sobbing and when I asked him what was wrong he wailed "I DON'T KNOW!!!!"

@erinbaderin: no, my kids were so weirdly normal, and I was on high alert for any sign of anything. I had a fairly mild reaction to all 3 of my shots, but still every time I would have a period about 24 hours after the shot where I suddenly just felt absolutely exhausted, and if I weren't a parent with a full time job, I would have just gone to my bed and slept. But Alas, I am a parent with a full time job, so I just kept on making dinner/doing kid homework/packing lunches.
But my kids both had soccer games the next day, and a play date (outside at a park in the afternoon), and they were just totally fine. Didn't want to go to bed early, didn't say they were tired, had no fevers. Seemed fine emotionally.

My daughter had no side effect after the 2nd shot. In fact, we went to see the Nutcracker that afternoon (black Friday) I personally would not rescheduled as to me, it's much better to be fully vax (2 weeks out) by Christmas...

@erinbaderin: My 8 year old was weirdly emotional after her first dose, too. Planning to be home tomorrow afternoon/evening for down time in case it happens again after dose 2 tomorrow morning.

Sore arms and nothing else. Almost wish they had been a little tired as I got boosted with them and was knocked out!

@Anagram: same for me!!!!
My kids (5) weretotally normal after the first & each had a slightly swollen lymph node in their armpit after the second.
Overall they were MORE energetic. Haha. After shot #2 they didnt want to go to bed early or act extra tired....but they did sleep in an extra hour.....which I more than welcomed on a Saturday morning!!!!!!!

My 5-year old just got her second shot on Friday and was actually pretty sick all weekend! Low fever all day Saturday, she said it "hurts behind my forehead", and her tummy hurt all weekend. She barely ate between Friday night and Sunday night. Sunday night she finally said she was hungry and ate a large meal so I think she's all good now. I was surprised because she had zero reaction to the first shot!

My kids got their second dose on Friday night and made it through the weekend just sore arms.

My two boys were totally fine, no symptoms after either dose. They actually got their flu shot at the same time as dose #1 so I was wondering if they'd feel crummy all weekend, but they felt great!

Statistically, fatigue and headaches are the most common side effect, but the rates are almost parallel with the placebo group. My kids had no reaction whatsoever, and he's 5, so he's on the lower end of the age/body size spectrum.

OP here! I would say my five-year-old was really pretty tired and crappy feeling. His arm wasn´t sore surprisingly! I think his head hurt but he's never really had a headache so he didn't even know how to explain it

My 8 y.o. reported a sore arm for his first dose and nothing for his second dose. Relief!

My daughter spiked a low fever overnight and threw up from her loft bed all over everything. Usually when she feels sick we have her sleep on the floor but she was fine at bedtime! Otherwise she was tired and crabby.

@erinbaderin: Are you going to do the informed consent shorter interval? We did, at 23 days at a Shoppers Drug Mart. No regrets with omicron closing in on us a little more each day!

@woodentulip: We went on Sunday (22 days) to Costco! I’d much rather have them as vaccinated as possible and have their immunity be a small bit lower than wait another five weeks! Interestingly my neighbour tried to book at a different Costco and they refused her, they said they HAD to wait until 8 weeks!
My kids were fine after the second dose, no side effects at all. Also a lot cooler about it in general - no crying, no freaking out, and all it cost us was a McDonalds milkshake - by FAR the cheapest needle-bribe we’ve ever had.

@erinbaderin: Amazing! My kiddo was just fine as well--a bit of a sore arm, but perhaps less than last time!
I went with the provincial EO in hand ready to argue, but the pharmacist was prepared, went over the informed consent, I initialed that I had made the decision and that was that. Thankful that it wasn't a big deal.
