Huh, I've never heard of an infant medication that doesn't also come in a liquid form. Could you just drop it in a bottle of warm breastmilk and let it dissolve completely?

@sunny: We also have to do a pill. It does technically dissolve in his mouth but I felt like powder would get spit out/spit up. Our Ped suggested dissolving it in a very small amount of warm water, sucking the water up with a syringe and giving it to him that way.

I would see if you have a compound pharmacy that could grind it up for you and mix with liquid. Could you mix with breastmilk and put in a syringe

I think just experiment with different temps of liquid, different consistencies (thin to thicker purees). You can always do first syringe-full followed by more water or liquid mixed to catch that residue. All you can do is get the most you can!

@megjay18: infants are on all kinds of pills for different medical needs. You'd be shocked! Some parents prefer crushing their own pills because the compounded liquids can be a large volume where you can mix it in a tiny amount with practice. Makes giving a little dose of Tylenol seem like nothing!

Wow I am so surprised to learn they give infants pills. That seems like it could be tough since their swallowing and mouth skills are not very strong yet. I would definitely try to figure out a way to suspend it in liquid and give it via syringe.

THIS - Do you have a mortar and pestle? You can get a really good powder with one, then with breastmilk in a syringe?

This is what liver team told us to do with J's meds that were pill form. You can also crush on wax paper and transfer that through the top and add breast milk. I felt able to transfer as much as possible using the wax paper

Are you using a pill crusher? I'd recommend getting one from the pharmacy if you don't already have one. That will give you a very fine powder.

When DH had a feeding tube I was taught how to crush pills and mix it with water by a nurse. I would put an little water in a cup, dump in the crushed pills, then mix with the tip of the syringe. If any of the crushed pill stuck to the bottom of the cup after sucking the mixture into the syringe, I added a little more water and sucked up the rest.

I was giving this mixture in a g-tube at first and when he began taking his meds orally he complained that it tasted awful. You might want to try a compounding pharmacy if you're using these meds long term.
