We use a computer system to check in/out. They're about to move to having your fingerprint scanned...but I'm not sure what I think about that yet.

We have a fingerprint system. It's really easy. You just place your thumb on the pad, which identifies your child and then unlocks the door to DD's daycare room.

The one I enrolled to be born DD in, we each get a code to punch in.

To check in the main gate is a number code. Each parent then has to use their own password to sign in/out kids from the classrooms, on a laptop. We also have to sign a hardcopy log.

We write her name down on a sheet when we walk into her room.

The building (it houses a graduate school and elementary school as well as the daycare) has a security guard and you need to either talk to him or use an entry card to enter through the turnstiles, and then her room has a security punch pad. But then there's no specific sign in for LO, I just talk to the teachers to drop her off

Our daycare has us punch a code into the door to get in. Then we sign them in and out in the binder for that classroom. It would be nice to have a computer system but our daycare isn't that advanced...

Key fob to get in the door. Then I sign her every day, just have to put the time in next to her name. Then time out when I pick her up.

Key code to get into the building, but then I just drop him off in his classroom with his teachers.

This is so foreign to me.
I just walk right into T's house and say "good morning!" like I live there.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
Wow such security! I walk in and write the time down next to his name. Doors aren't locked.

Code to punch into the door takes you to the front office, then another guardian login to enter the second set of doors.

Someone buzzes us in, and we sign her out on a sheet. I wish there was tighter security, it's not in the best part of town.

@blackbird: I do like it because I feel like the kids are extra monitored with the code to get in the building and then check in/out on computer. Especially since it is house in a church, all doors that access into the daycare have key codes.
But, I don't like the new fingerprint system. It feels like my privacy is being violated in a way.

We have a swipe card to get into the facility and then good old-fashioned pen and paper to sign in and out.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@matador84: Totally. T locks the door after the 4 kids show up, so it's not like people are in/out all day.

Swipe card/key fob thing to get into the building, then we sign LO in/out on the computer in the lobby. It records your sign-in/out times so if you are a habitual late picker-upper they can charge you. (also of course let's them know who is there or not for the day).
In her classroom we also have to fill out a daily sheet for her.

We have a code to get in the front door and then a check in/check out code.

We have a code for an ipad inside the front door and then we sign him into a binder in his classroom.
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@blackbird: @jetsa: Exactly! I knock as I'm opening the door as M is running in kicking her boots off!
When my son was in preschool we had to go into the office and sign a form with an in/out time and date.
pineapple / 12053 posts
we only do a once a week thing and we check her in and then walk her to the playground on campus where they start their morning. extremely low tech.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@blackbird: me too??!! Dd goes to a daycare but I just walk in, say hello and bring LO to her room?? Never heard of key fobs, gate codes or fingerprint scans!
pomelo / 5621 posts
We walk in the front door that has really loud chimes. I write down his time in and out on his sheet in the binder. No high tech stuff here.

There is an iPad at the front door with passcode to sign her in/out. To get in the doors, we use a handprint scanner.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@sunny: ours is the exact same. The only thing I don't like about the scanner is that I feel like the hand pad is covered in cooties...all those parents walking their kids into school and then touching that same spot. I try to wash my hands or use sanitizer soon after. It also sometimes takes a few seconds longer than I'd like to recognize my hand. ETA: Also, the iPad is a little annoying too as you have to put in your code, select the first letter of your last time, select your kid, hit check in or out, sign using your finger, then hit close...too many screens!

Wow, I had no idea entry systems were so varied. We knock on the door at LOs in home daycare. If I want someone else to pick LO up I just text a picture of the person.
coconut / 8430 posts
@78h2o: I know what you mean! But I feel that all surfaces in the daycare are covered in cooties. I should probably keep some hand sanitizer in my car for when I forget to wash them when I'm inside the daycare.
