I reading the Plan B thread and it got me to thinking, how did you decide your limit with IF costs?

Like I said in that thread, DH and I were just recently referred to an RE and found out our insurance will not cover anything to do with infertility, we would have to pay out of pocket for diagnostic testing and any treatments we would decide to pursue. We originally thought we would pursue testing and limited treatment but that's when we thought insurance would cover some of that. Now we are trying to decide if we should just put our money into adoption or pursue testing. For the next year or so we are taking a break and saving some money, because we weren't really expecting this. We have money for a baby if we could conceive naturally but we don't have money for tests and treatments or to adopt, and we really aren't willing to take on debt that we just got rid of in order to have a child (not knocking anyone that decides to do that, it's just not for us.) Not only that but I am trying to decide which I can handle emotionally.

So how do you decide what your financial and emotional limits are? Did you make a decision before TTC or is it evolving as you face IF?
