I don't even always wipe her if it's just wet - I just use a dry area of the diaper to blot her a little. Of course if the diaper is soaked then I will use a wipe & then blot a little with the fresh diaper.
I don't wait for a rash to use ointment but I only do it if she is getting red. I use just a pea sized amount before bed.
Coconut oil is great for their little bums so I often put that on her after a bath.

Wipe then diaper. If he's a little red, I put some cream on.
DH wipes, powder, then diaper. I don't put powder on.

@daniellemybelle: I don't wipe if it's a wet diaper either. Only if it's dirty.

I agree I really like coconut oil and don't worry about using it often.
I don't think you have to dry them but I do think that letting them air dry or pat dry can help prevent some rashes.

@Corduroy: We also used paper towels and water when he was really little because the wipes were so irritating on his bum!

We actually used a wash cloth instead of disposable wipes for a long time. We started with wash cloth but when we made the switch to disposable wipes she developed a bad rash so we went back. Didn't stop until she was much older. But we used disposable wipes when we're out.

Wipe and a preemptive application of butt paste (which is my savior). Have only dealt with one tiny amt of diaper rash in 10months!

Unless he gets a rash, just a wipe. Sometimes no wipe b/c he's eager to get going already, especially when we do it standing up. If you're worried about rashes you can always put some Aquaphor before his night diaper, but I can't see that you'll need to do this until he's a bit older and sleeping through the night. Newborns get their diapers changed a lot the first couple of months. Also, there's some controversy with baby powder, I think? I bought it and never needed to use it. I might have used it to fix a creak on our hardwood floors a few times.

Wipe and dipe. We've only used cream a handful of times when they had a rash, or a little redness.

Wipe & Diaper. I was told to never use powder before 6 months due to it potentially causing asthma. that scared me enough to skip it, never used it.
