I think the stat is it's 400x safer if they are rf than ff at height/weight.

At this point I just throw out that we're doing it according to current recommendations. After two I'll just say because it's safer. I don't feel like it's judge mental if it's just stating a fact. I don't know how long after two we will rf, though.

Yeah, until 2 I say it is the recommendations (and his gastro DID make a big deal out of it until he was 2). Now I just say that he is so little (just barely the size of most 2 year olds) that it is safer for him. I also say self deprecating things like "because I am THAT crazy mom"

DD is only 9.5 months, but we plan to do ERF and, honestly, this is one case in which I don't feel bad about potentially coming off as "judgmental" (in quotes because I don't think it's judgmental if you're just stating fact and not saying something disparaging about what someone else is doing).

The thing is, most people don't know about how much safer ERF is, particularly because it isn't required by law and, from what I've read, some peds will even say it's fine to switch to FF at one year. As such, I think that, if someone asks why you still RF, it's fine to explain the safety piece - in fact, it's educating them and hopefully spreading the word. I think by not explaining that and mumbling something about being paranoid you're doing a disservice.

Sorry if I come on too strong about this, but it's something that's really important to me and it bothers me that ERF is somehow seen as strange or paranoid; I think we need to do our part to normalize it.

I have no problem admitting that we won't be moving her around yet because it is significantly safer. People make weird comments because they think it's stupid or pointless but I don't care. It's just a fact at this point. I bet in 5 years, it's the law

I told people it's much safer and left it at that. They look at me funny but I don't care. Someone on one of the boards said better to have broken legs than to have a broken neck

My LO is still under 2 so I haven't gotten any grief yet, but after two I'm going to just say "she's so petite that I'm keeping her turned around awhile longer." and leaving it at that.

Yup, I always say because its safer - I don't mean it judgmentally, it's just the truth, so if it come off that way that's their problem
