I love my dog a ton, but after she's gone (hopefully not for a little while yet!), I don't think we'll get another for a few years. There has been a lot of stress and money involved with our current dog and I think I want to sort of be free of that for a while. We may have a cat eventually, but not another dog for a period of time.

@autumnlove: LOVE! Our dog is our son. We love him so much.

DH is allergic to cats. But he really wants a dog. I said no way until he is home every night to take care of it.
In general I am not a pet person at all. Dogs are cute when they are at someone else's house.

My dog is my furbaby and I couldn't imagine life without him. I can't even think about the day he leaves me without tearing up. He's definitely one of the best parts of my life.

Love my cat, and LOVE watching LO interact with the cat and get super excited to see her. I'd love to get a dog, but I don't feel like I have enough time to devote to one right now, so I transport rescue pups on the weekend and get my fill of dog snuggles and kisses

I'm totally obsessed with my cat! He is my best friend. Pathetic, perhaps, but true.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my little pup! he gets all of our attention now, but he's in for a real reality check once our lo is born in july..

Both of our careers revolve around pets in need, so we couldn't live without some in our lives. Yes, they can be a total pain, but so are kids!

I love our dogs, but we have 3 so it can be a handful, especially when we want to travel. We will never own so many at one time again.

I think animals are cute. However, I personally don't enjoy caring for one in addition to caring for my own babies. I had a dog when my first son was born. He was medium sized but oh so energetic (like 5 mile run and still wanting to do more). It eventually got to the point where the extra amount of care I had to give to him was super stressful. We gave him away to a very active couple right before my 2nd son was born and it has made all the difference.
So in short, I love other people's animals. I just don't want to care for them myself.

I love our pets! They are part of our family. They definitely require a lot of sacrifice in time, travel, and expense (especially because one of ours has a chronic health issue), but they are totally totally worth it. We're set with our 3 though I think (2 cats 1 dog). My husband has talked about another dog, but IMO taking an animal means forever no matter what, and I'm all-too-aware that every animal is another potential for thousands of dollars of expense and I don't think we can afford the risk of a 4th right now.

I love our cat! We got him when C was 4 months old, so they've grown up together and are buds. We had another kitty but he passed away in November from a heart attack.
We're going to get a dog when we get home in a couple months and Im SO excited. Im way more of a dog person.

I love my pet, I was a crazy pet mom before LO was born, and I am sadly not as crazy about her as I was, but I still love her. She cuddles with me every night.

I adore my dog!! It took DH over 3 years to convince me to get a dog... I never grew up with pets and was always nervous around dogs. But now after having ours for 4 years, I can't imagine not having her! Luckily she is very low maintenance and requires very little attention... she's a loner, haha.

I love my dogs but I can't lie, when someone comes to the front door while LO is sleeping and they wake her up barking I mutter "I hate these stupid dogs" over and over!!

I love our dog and cat...I can't imagine our lives without them. When we first moved to our current location (several hours from friends and family) I felt very isolated in my new environment and our dog really helped with some mild depression I dealt with as a result of my situation. I think DH and I have an unspoken agreement that there will always be animals in our house because we love them so much and want our kids to have the same type of relationship with animals.

I our pup! I never had one growing up, but she is an awesome addition to our family. I will freely admit, she can be a lot of work. I routinely tell her that I am going to string her up by her toenails when she gets on my nerves, but she plays a very important role in our family. She is our stress relief and helps keep my anxiety in check. Now that we have had her, I cannot imagine not having a dog around!

We love our pets. 2 cats and 2 dogs and a salt water aquarium and we talk about what we want next. We're even looking at houses that would allow us some bigger outside animals. We love them.

I have three cats, so I feel pretty good about pets haha. I love my babies! We used to have just two, then we lost my sweet girl suddenly over the summer, much too young, and I was totally devastated. We recently adopted two kittens (siblings) to keep our other cat company, because he had been lonely, and they've helped with the healing. Still miss my girl, though, but we've lucked out with these kittens -- all three of our cats just LOVE to cuddle each other

@mrsjazz: Prozac is only $4 at the Walmart pharmacy.
But really I understand! Our animals are so much work. So much money, so much stress, and so much time. But I love animals so I can't imagine not having them. I grew up with several pets and have had at least 1 cat of my own since moving away from my parents. Now we have 2 dogs and 2 cats. (So much fur!) When I stay places without animals it feels so strange.

I love animals, but I don't want them in my home. I get so attached, that when they die, it literally devastates me...soooo I'm done with pets!

@chibee: haha same here! she's my first baby... Who just happens to have four legs and bark
I love, love, love my dogs. They're not animals to me. People always warned me that after I had a kid, I would neglect them - nope. I really think love grows!

I love animals, but don't really believe in the concept of pets. Animals are meant to be wild in my opinion, so probably won't get one for myself, but if people want to have then, by all means.

@Mrs.Panda: Happy Birthday to your baby!! Our (fur)babies are 6 and 1. Love them so much!

@CatchAFallingStar: Ours too. Our "firstborn" and "second born." If we're lucky enough to add a two-legged baby, s/he'll be our "third born"

I loved having a dog as a child. When I was a teenager, we had a cat who I loved so much. I mean, I had a ridiculous amount of love for him.
Ever since those two died, I can't commit to another. I think having LO's, is enough for me right now. I look at my sisters pets and they are soooo bad. SO BAD...both pee and crap on everything. If I had a pet with behavioral problems and LO's, I would be way too stressed out. So no pets for me until my youngest is at least 5.

Pets are pets. Especially since baby came along.
And I HATE animal hair. Yuck! (ETA of course that has to do with the individual animal and the owners, but it's hard to keep up with!)
That said I like pets and I think when I have older kids I will be more wanting to have one and love it.

No pets for us. I am highly allergic and didn't grow up with any pets so I don't really want one now. DH didn't grow up with pets in his culture so he isn't into them either. I think they are cute from afar though

I love our dog, but I've never had the "fur baby" mentality. She's a family member, but she's still just a dog. We'll probably always have one because we enjoy owning a working dog for duck and dove hunting, but I'd like a year after she passes to enjoy being hair-free! My son looooves her, but she's indifferent to him for now.
