I am expecting LO#1 and was beginning to contemplate a maternity shoot (though I'm not sure). I started browsing local photographers online, and realized that there are maternity shoots, newborn shoots, 3 month shoots, 6 month shoots, 9 month shoots, 12 month shoots, fall family shoots, Christmas card shoots, you get the idea...

I feel like that is a LOT of money to spend on photo shoots. Especially when you consider that most of these shoots are perfection (from every detail in the nursery to the clothes and jewelry that every family member is wearing). I definitely appreciate good photos and want to document special moments and my family in various stages of life, but I am getting overwhelmed by the thought of all this!

So did you do all these shoots? If so, what do you end up doing with all the pics? Making albums? Sending them to family? Posting them to social media?

Did anyone just buy a nice camera and attempt to document special moments themselves? Maybe the photos wouldn't be quite as magazine quality, but you'd still have the memories. And then you could sprinkle some professional shoots in over the years?

Maybe I am just over-thinking this, but browsing the photographer blogs today made me feel super stressed!
