I want some change to my hair but I'm scared. I have virgin hair. Never dyed, perms, no chemicals, no treatments, etc.
But I have always wanted to try putting some soft waves into my hair.
How would you achieve that at a salon? Ballpark how much would it cost? How long would it last?
I currently have thin straight hair that has a bit of a natural wave to it.

depends on the salon and geography but ranges from 150-250 before tip!

I did an American Wave, cost me about $250. They can customize it to the level of waviness you want, by how long they leave the solution on.
It's designed so that the curl relaxes and grows out at the same time, which is different than a traditional perm, which only grows out, doesn't really relax.

There's a Japanese perm called the Air Wave perm out now! I've been thinking about trying it... I want to grow out my hair first though.

@Mrs. High Heels: Yes, that's the one I'm thinking of!!! They always sell it at the salons in C-town. Maybe I'll get it next time I'm home......it's pretty $$$ though, right?

@locavore_mama: I haven't done much research into it but I'm thinking it's going to run about $200-250?? I don't dye, rarely cut or do anything to my hair either except the occasional $5 bang trim so this would definitely be a splurge. I hate the idea of sitting in a chair for 4 hours though... so I may not even do it!

I have had a spiral perm since I was 7.Takes longer to do the rollers, but looks more natural. You can customize it based on the size of the roller, and even which perm they use (some take differently than others).
