I need a system! Maybe figuring out a way to block in a play area in the living room. My house is a disaster!
Whats your system?

When you find the answer, let me know. Usually, I lock him in the living room and he sits and cries at one of the gates. I can typically get a load of laundry done. Otherwise we do things after bed time or during naps. Also, he goes to daycare so I will use some of that time to do stuff. He will also follow me around while doing things. It may take longer BUT he does get to learn how to do those things too.

We usually stay on level 2, so I just made sure the entire floor was baby proofed. I let her roam freely.

We would keep a section for baby (big enough) he would play in there, roam and do his things. I on the other hand, could do other things than run after him.

baby carrying is an option. Check out Pax Baby - she carries her toddlers and even 3 year olds. She does a back carry so she can still get stuff done. It's pretty cool watching it! I am excited for LO to hit the six month mark so I can back carry him. Having him in the front carry gets in the way.

I don't...haha...well we did block off a big area of the living room as a play room, but that only buys me short 5-10 minute chunks because he always ends up at the gate crying for me to come back. Other than laundry I just don't really do any housework during the day.

I wish I knew. He's gotten too big to be happy in a "contraption" like the jumperoo. We're gating off the stairs soon, but our downstairs is too open and I can't really gate off a special area. I'm in the process of childproofing but I definitely can't get everything. So I guess the answer is - I don't!

When do they start getting mobile? I am not looking forward to it. Does anyone set them down in the pack and play with some toys or does that not work?

@sandy: My LO was a littlel late with the moving, but she started army crawling at about 9 months. She does NOT like to go in the pack n play, she'll sit there and cry if we try it. She also doesn't like the jumparoo anymore, she just wants to be crawling and exploring!
I usually just let her go, and wherever she is I do stuff in that room. She'll roam into my room and I'll put my laundry away or clean something in there up. Then she'll go back into her room and I'll fold her laundry or do whatever needs to be done there.

I either wait until my son is asleep or I wear him in a soft structure carrier.

@sandy: Baby Jumper started scooting at 3.5 months, crawling at 5 months, and standing/cruises on the couch at 6 months.
We keep her contained in our living room, which is completely baby proofed... complete with bumpers on the windowsill she loves to look out!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: that is so sweet that she likes to look out the window!
my LO is 6 months and shows no signs of being mobile...so I haven't started baby proofing yet. She rolls all around in her crib but when I put her down in her mat during awake time she just plays on her tummy or rolls over once or twice. No scooting or standing either. For now she is happy in her exersaucer and jumperoo when I need time to get stuff done.
Maybe I will start putting her down in her pack and play with some toys... Or I need to start researching baby proofin gear
