I don't have an LO so I'm not sure about that smell specifically, but when our towels get musty I use a bit of vinegar in the wash. It's worth a shot!

@sunny: just regular tide...i actually think its the free & clear that makes the smell worse. i could be wrong on this but i think because milk is a protein (like blood), warm/hot water will seal it into the fabric so that is why the smell lingers. so its easier to disguise it with some sort of scented detergent. i figured if LO's skin was sensitive to it, then i'd just live with the milky smell, but if she was fine then we'd stick with the regular tide. she had no reaction to it, and our burp cloths smell like tide now.
