In Brooklyn, there are always steps and stairs that you have to go up and down... oftentimes, I will just pick up Charlie and the entire stroller and carry them up and down stairs, just to avoid the hassle of going up backwards or unfolding the stroller.
Charlie is getting heavier though, so those days may be coming to an end. If you live in the city, how do you get up and down stairs with your stroller?

Depends how many stairs we're looking at. If it's just a few, I go up backwards. If it's a lot, I dunno...I look for an elevator. My regular stroller is to big to fold and carry.

I'm not good with carrying a child in an umbrella stroller at the same time... my hubby used to do it, and I see people do it all the time at subway stops, but not me.
So when I'm alone with her I'd have her get out and climb the stairs while I carried the stroller (maclaren quest). At subway stops, this means after the rush of people go by, since she's slow. Or sometimes I'd carry her on my hip and have the stroller on my shoulder like a backpack.
