DD2 is 2yrs and has a cough. It's wet, but not in her chest, but it's so bad that she hasn't slept more than 30 min at a time for the past few nights. She's exhausted and miserable but can't get relief. I tried giving her mucinex cough one and benedryl out of desperation (different nights, and in doses cleared by the pedi) but neither making a difference.
Any other ideas to help her sleep?

We have had this and it sucks so much. I give her a lot of "honey tea" - warm water mixed with a lot of honey- before bed. I've tried Hylands cough and cold, which might help a little. Humidifier in her room. Trying to make sure she is propped up on pillows (she's in a big bed). It just really sucks all around.

Have you thought about taking her to the pediatrician?
Xander has asthma, so he has an inhaler he gets when he has a cough and it helps a LOT. And Logan's used an inhaler for bad coughs in the past too - they definitely help.

Every time the LOs have had a bad cough, we do saline breathing treatments, humidifier, and our Ped has prescribed us Bromfed dm before. Bromfed is a decongenstant and cough suppressant, so we only use it at bed time.
The last time LO1 got really sick, we took her to the doctor and they said it's viral, keep doing what you are doing--but her coughing suddenly took a turn for the worse, so we went back and then were told she had croup. At that point, she was given steroids and something else (can't remember), and we continued the breathing treatments...within 48 hours she'd turned the corner. Then it took an additional 2 weeks to really clear.

We usually do a warm mist humidifier, then give him a dose of Zarbee's+ Mucus (it's essentially dark honey with zinc) once he was over 1. We then put baby Vicks vapor rub on his feet and put socks on so he doesn't touch them and then touch his eyes or mouth.
Surprisingly, the Vicks on his feet helps so much.

Will she drink tea? Lemon with honey is great. Even just putting down a spoonful of honey might offer some relief. We also do a nice steamy shower before bed and keep the humidifier on in their room all night.

@Boogs: oh yeah sometimes if she is coughing a lot during the night I mix honey with just a little hot water, to make it thinner, and have her drink it out of a medicine cup. I think it helps coat hear throat better (I do the same for me).
