I cut a banana in half for R tonight. I put the other half in a ziploc bag and put in the fridge. But it is still turning brown, any tips so it won't go to waste?

Do you keep the peel on? It stays fresh for me that way. I also wrap it in a paper towel before putting it in the fridge.

I only peel half and then just stick it in the fridge. If its all the way peeled, you might be out of luck.

Lemon juice! If you rub any kind if citrus juice on a banana it won't turn brown.
When I give Vi half a banana though, I cut it before I peel it so the other half is still protected by the peel for the night. Then you can just cut a little off the exposed end and you're good to go!

I keep the peel on the other half and I actually keep it out on the counter. When I go to eat it the following day, I just trim the end off and the rest seems to stay fresh. I'm lazy I guess!

Freeze it! then add a little cocoa powder to it in the morning and it tastes like ice cream if you put in the food processor or mash it

I trim the end off (including peel) so it's perfectly flat, then I use a piece of press n' seal, and there is minimal browning since there is no exposure to air.

@Andrea: @BananaPancakes: I cut it in half while still in they peel so just the end is exposed. Do you un peel half break it and then wrap the used peel around the unused part?
@Arden: @QueensBee: That is what I was going to do. I am going to cut in the am at home and send the rest to day care for breakfast, so I will try the lemon juice!
@QueensBee: I don't trust the counter. Bugs are coming in there house since it is getting colder out.

@mrbee: @junebugmama: How long do they take to defrost? If I want her to have the rest tomorrow. She just picks up pieces, I don't mash it.

@Smurfette: Oh no, that would be no good! I forgot to mention that I do keep it in a little sealed tupperware but still not the best idea if bugs are around! I never thought of freezing it..The cocoa on top sounds yummy. I might try that next!

@QueensBee: I haven't seen any on the counter but better safe then sorry! I wasn't sure if I need to out in the fridge or not so I just did.

@Smurfette: not long but when you freeze and thaw a banana it actually becomes creamy. I don't think she would be able to pick it up after that. It's kind of strange what happens to a thawed banana. That's why it makes super yummy healthy "ice cream".

@Smurfette: When we freeze bananas, we usually then use them in smoothies afterward!

@junebugmama: Yeah that wouldn't worry, she isn't great about picking up stuff yet. Can't make it more slippery for her!

@QueensBee: i do this too. i wrap the exposed end in saran wrap and eat it the next day, and i cut off the tip if necessary.

@Smurfette: no, I do not cut it. Peel, break off half, and keep the rest wrapped! The baby eats 1/2 a banana for breakfast so it keeps well for the next day.

I'd freeze it and drop it in a smoothie... Or make healthy ice cream with it, like a pp mentioned. We call it "banana swirl"... Got the idea from Daniel Tiger and have seen recipes on Pinterest too! Kids love it because the consistency is just like ice cream!

I keep the peel on, and then when i go to use the other half I just slice the brown end off!

I just keep the peel on and throw it in the fridge. Usually just the cut edge is brown. I try to eat it within 24 hours.

Hmm... is it weird I don't put mine in the fridge?? I've heard the cold will make bananas turn brown faster!
When I did this with Xander, I kept the peel on, put it in a ziploc baggy, and left it on the counter. It seemed fine the next day.

I cut the banana in half then cut a small slice of skin from the banana that I ate and put that on the end of the banana I am saving - then leave it on the counter
