It has been so insanely cold here, that we can't even go outside. Which means I'm running out of things to do and it's only December.
How do you keep the kids busy in the winter months when you are stuck home/inside a lot?

DD got a mini trampoline and an indoor slide as birthday presents. Between the two she can be occupied for hours each day. I've been letting her finger paint in the tub and then she gets a bath. In fact sometimes she just wants a bubble bath in the middle of the day for fun! Occasionally I'll have her bake something with me.
We also watch about an hour of tv each day - typically split in two 30 minutes chunks.

Today...fast food kid play place. Pray for me always.
We actually have two good indoor playground/gymnastics places but neither was open today.

Ugh. We walk daily to the store, paint, build towers, read. Winter is the pits.
@catgirl: would you mind linking those?

@catgirl: What finger paint do you use in the tub? I have gone to buy some but keep getting overwhelmed by all the different washable paints!

The mall next to our house has a great indoor kids' play area. Our DD is there everyday with our nanny (as are all the other local nannies and their kids).

@Greentea: Sure! I will say the slide has a bigger footprint than we anticipated but if you have the space it is great! We also set up a price alert for amazon and got it for less than $50.

@Astro Bee: We have been using crayola bathtub finger paint. I got it in the dollar spot at target. It's okay, I wish it were a bit easier to clean. I have to clean it up as soon as we are done or it will start to stain.

DS has really gotten into building with his Mega Blocks recently, but he is only 15 months and is also massively entertained by zippers.
How old are your kids? Could you occupy them with an elaborate build project with mega blocks/kinect/magnatiles or the like? We used to build marble obstacle courses and attempt Rube Goldberg machines but I think we were 7+.

Yeah, we are miserable. I think we might join a gym with kid classes and a pool and a kid space... it's like we need somewhere to go. We have a great kid museum but parking downtown with two kids uuugh. Our botanical gardens are great but across town and the library is a bit claustrophobic.
I love sledding but most days it is windchill advisory
Going to get indoor slide asap...

DD is only home with the baby and I two days a week which helps. On Monday we go to the library for toddler story time. We stick around and play and pick out books. On Fridays there is a playgroup at a center in our neighborhood. It's in the morning for two hours. A lot of her friends go and there is free play, circle time, snack and crafts. If it wasn't for those activities, there would be a lot of tv time these days.

I still go outside, I just bundle my kid up nice and warm and out we go. I think I am going to buy us some of those face mask things for the windy days.
Other than that, we're scheduled for an art class for a few hours on Saturday and I am planning to take him to free skate at the ice rink on Sunday afternoons.
