LO is 17 months and he has been STTN for a long time with no real issues when we put him down in his crib. A few nights ago though he started crying hysterically when we leave him in his crib. It can take over 30 minutes for him to settle down. He also wakes up every hour or two and cries. Sometimes it's a one time cry and other times he cries a lot.
He doesn't have a fever but has been more fussy/sensitive in general. Could it be an ear infection? Could it be molars (his gum on one side is swollen)? Could it just be new sleeping problems/the joy of toddlerhood? Should we call the doctor? If you've run into something similar how did you handle it?

If it's been going on for a while, I might take him in to see if he's got an ear infection. BUT-there's also the 18 month sleep regression from hell-so there's that to consider. I don't remember how long it lasted for my LO, but I do remember thinking that I was going to lose my mind. We ended up sleep training around 19 months, because I couldn't take it anymore.

@LovelyPlum: Thanks! I think we may call the doctor tomorrow if we have another rough night tonight. We've been lucky not to have any sleep regressions yet but reading on HB it looks like it is not uncommon to run into around 18 months.

This just reminded me that we did take her in to have her ears checked around that time. They were clear, it was just crappy sleep, but she also has hit pretty much every sleep regression.
But we just had this recently and I thought it was just her reacting to all the changes in her life (new baby) but after a week finally brought her in and she does have an ear infection. So I say if it goes on for a few nights it's worth having it checked.
