Sometimes they are just staring at me... and I don't have the motivation to just dive right in!
How do you motivate to do the dishes?

How do you motivate to do the dishes?

Usually I want to cook something but it's too hard to do with the dishes in the sink!

The longer I wait, the more crusted everything gets to the dish and the smellier everything gets

I can never seem to motivate myself to do them. I just procrastinate until they magically disappear.

With difficulty, and usually not until I need to use something that's in the sink waiting to be washed.

I have no dishwasher to hide my dirty dishes in, so I have to wash them when I'm done with them. Less than two months into this place and even though I otherwise love this house, I hate not having a dishwasher!

I HATE doing the dishes and unfortunately so does DH. Every day we have to decide who is more tired and then the other person does it. SIGH.

It's definitely not easy! I don't let myself go to bed until the dishes are done, and I almost never break that rule unless I am really sick. I hate looking at last night's dishes in the morning so that is motivation enough for me I guess.

@Rubies: Shouldn't you automatically win now, since you're pregnant?
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
@mrbee: You would think that, right??? The pregnancy card doesn't work when it comes to dishes!

I use our dishwasher but I never find the motivation to empty it.

@Rubies: Well you can tell him that I think he should do the dishes from now on! It's only fair... it's hard for a pregnant lady to even get to the sink to rinse and scrub them!!

@mrbee: You're my hero. As soon as DH comes home from work I will inform him that I'm done doing dishes for the rest of my pregnancy!

I live in a subtropical paradise. So... Cockroaches. Silverfish. Ants.
The dishes get done quickly!

We both hate doing the dishes...but during my pregnancy DH was amazing and did them almost all the time...and now that LO is here he doesn't expect me to do them. That does mean they sit there for 2 days..but if he does em, I don't care!! It's the one chore I really hate!

If there are dishes in the sink, the baby can't get a bath. So...i guess that motivates me!

I can't stand the sight of all that clutter and messiness, so it's pretty easy for me to want to do the dishes when I see them lying there!

I want to keep the ants away, so I keep all the dishes out of the sink.

I already don't love cooking so having a dirty kitchen just makes that worse, AND DH cleans the kitchen after dinner but only if the daytime dishes were already done. It's one of those things that if I want a clean kitchen the next day while I'm making breakfast & lunch I better get the dishes done sometime this afternoon! lol

I don't. DH does them Sometimes if he is having a rough day I'll do them for him.

I'm afraid of bugs, so we keep the sink clear. I run the dishwasher at night, empty it in the morning, and its done!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
I dunno, we just do them cuz we need to use the dishes the next day!

I imagine DH's look of dismay when he comes home from work and sees dirty dishes. It's his one pet peeve, and he does a lot of the other chores, so I just make sure its done.

My husband does most of the cooking. He is *extremely* messy in the kitchen. So, I try to do the dishes when he hasn't completely destroyed the kitchen, and I make him do them when he makes such a mess that I can't handle it.
ETA: Yes, I am completely spoiled!

I trick myself into it-- I tell myself I'm just going to wash a few off the top, or the 'easiest' ones (plates!!), and once u
I get started it is a lot easier to continue! Or I set a time limit--- how many can I get done in 15min..... it doesn't always work, but often enough!!
