I almost exclusively use a credit card, but I pay it off each month and never carry a balance.

We put everything on our Southwest Air credit card and pay it off monthly! Yay for air miles!

Debit card. I need to start using my credit card so I earn points and pay it off at the end of the month!

We use our debit cards for almost everything. We have checks because our previous landlord wouldn't do a direct withdrawal. It was annoying. Most people don't even take checks anymore!

Always credit for the points then pay it off in full each month.

I use cash for groceries and miscellaneous, credit for gas, car repairs etc and a cheque for church donations. I used to use credit for everything, but I found that I wasn't keeping in my budget. If I use cash, I just have to stop when I run out.

Cash for most things, direct check from our bank for monthly bills, actual check for three items (daycare, storage unit, tithe), debit card for online purchases although we put the cash back into the bank to cover those expenses.

Debit card for most things. Credit card for things that earn me bonus cash back awards.

We use our debit card as a credit card to get points. The bank is ending the program at the end of the month so we'll be switching back to debit.

We pay for everything on our USAA rewards mastercard, and then pay it off at the end of the month.
I used to use my debit card prior to combining finances with DH and he always scolded me about the safety of this. I was lucky nothing every happened to me, because several months after we got married and joined accounts and he made me start using the "Big Credit Card", I logged into our account one day and saw that we had a more ginormous than usual balance. After investigating, I saw where someone had gotten our card number and booked two flights for $1500 each! AND they even charged their carryon baggage fees to it! I was so pissed! Of course it was pretty easy to sort out bc USAA is a military bank, so it's wonderful, but it freaked me out about if that would have been "real" money!

Always credit cards to earn points. We've flown several times using our points!

We use our debit cards almost always, unless it's an emergency then we use credit cards. I like to use our debit cards because that means we have the cash for it, and we're bad about paying off our debts each month- probably because we're in so deep ahh

debit card always, very rarely do I carry cash, and if I do it's a small amount that can only be used at a vending machine or fast food place.

We use our credit cards for pretty much everything. Checks where we need to, but we never carry a balance, we pay it off every month. DH and I have sperate credit cards, but the same one/brand. We like to stock up points and then turn them in for cash! We can do that about 1-2 times a year and get a $250-$300 check. It's pretty nice

debit pretty much exclusively. occasionally we'll whip out the credit card, but we dont carry a balance

Debit. We are trying to be debt free so we are paying off our CC and not using it.

credit. which we use like our debit cards we only charge $$ we have on hand. we pay off our cc bill every month. that way we rake in all the rewards, etc.

I pretty much use the Amex (for the points!) and pay it off every month. But I always carry cash with me, even if it is just my emergency $100.

Almost always our AmEx, although sometimes I'll use the Visa if the points are better. I never have cash on me!

My husband and I each have "rewards" credit cards, his is for airline miles, mine is just points. We pay them off every month unless there's some random big purchase that we want to pay off over a couple months, but that's pretty rare. We used to be able to pay our rent with credit card and that earned us some serious miles, but now we have to write checks.

98% credit card to "earn" rewards, but we pay it off monthly. The remaining 2% is cash. With direct deposit and all things electronic now days, cash is hard to have on hand!

we use credit cards whenever possible because we have cash back rewards cards.

We use a mix of things: we try to use cash for things like eating out and small misc. purchases, monthly bills and tithing is done exclusively by check because my husband's is old fashioned and wants it done that way, everything else is a mix of debit and credit which is paid in full every month.

@Leialou: This was actually a federal law change that banks can no longer offer points on debit cards. Such a bummer!

We use our debit card (as credit) for everything. It’s easier that way for me to go onto our online account and use the information from there to update our budget spreadsheet.

@jholler25: I love USAA. Alex always gives me a hard time for using my debit card too. We're going to combine our finances at some point this month by until then it's my usaa card for personal purchases, the Costco cash back Amex for household expenses. His cards have way less interest than mine.

credit for large purchases to get points and pay off in full, debit for pretty much everything else, cash for when i know i'll need it.

Wow lots of responses! We also use credit cards to earn miles and pay off the balance every month. It's great because with them we've been able to fly to Hawaii and the easy coast for practically nothing.
