We do a combination of meal planning, coupons (manufacturer's and store stack), stock pile the items we use most commonly that go on sale and we can store.

We have a hard time with this too! My LO is only three months so it's just DH & I eating "real" food & we spend close to $100-$130 a week! That's twice the national average!! He is a HUGE snacker & can blow through groceries in less than a weekend. I've been trying to cut back by stocking the house with fruits & veggies as snacks instead of boxes of crackers, frozen foods, etc. but it's so hard to get him to eat them! He just goes out & spends more money on fast food! I'm not sure how to motivate him to be healthier & more budget friendly lol

Find out what day things go on special (like, things that are close to their expiration date). At our store, Tuesday is manager special day. We have a deep freezer and we stock up on stuff that is close to date and freeze it!
Also, shop bulk! Again, a freezer make this easier.
