I'm currently living in Texas and another way to say "throw away", like "throw away the paper" is "chunk it". Growing up in the Midwest it was "chuck it". Which do you say?

I don't really use the term, but chuck it something I have heard.

@Mamaof2: Actually saying "chunk". It's always bothered me and I was reminded of it again today. My city is having a clean up day and the signs scattered around the city say "Chunk your Junk and Clean up CityName" I get that it rhymes in this case but it's so foreign to me.

I've never used either of those terms but have heard "chuck it" before. I usually say "throw away" or "toss."

I've only heard chuck. My daughter calls it "booming". Like, "I boomed it!" or "Want me boom it?" I think because the trash can make a booming sound when we opened it? Idk

Yes in NY where I grew up we said chuck it and here in Texas where I live now they say "chunk it". They also say to "put something up" meaning to put it away. But where I grew up we said "stand on line" and my DH laughs at me every time and says you should say stand IN line.

Chunk it grosses me out! That sounds like throwing up, lol!
I say toss it, or throw it away.

@MamaG: Have you heard any Texans say "Put it up?" Which means to put it away? I was a teacher before becoming a SAHM and I would hear other teachers tell kids to "put up your cell phones" in the hall and I was so confused for so long!!! hahaha

@travellingbee: "put something up" I think is more southern, I picked it up from my husband who is very much southern.

Okay, so maybe it's a very localized thing in my area of Texas and even less common. But I promise, the people that I hear say it and comment upon it being odd look at me like I have three eyeballs.

@MamaG: No that is what I am saying... they say it here in Houston. I think it's funny because I am from NY, originally.

I grew up (TN and GA mostly) saying "chunk," but decided as an adult that I prefer the sound of "chuck."

@MamaBehr: People don't normally say "put it up"? Definitely always heard that here (TN).

huh, I live in Texas and don't think I've ever heard that phrase! funny

@Torchwood: Nope, put it up is definitely "southern". In the Midwest we "put it away". Like my shoes stay on the floor of the closet, so they aren't really "up", they are "away".

We say toss it a lot. I don't like the sound of chunk it at all! Kinda gross haha

I grew up in the midwest but my parents are from Texas and I never heard "chunk," just "chuck" or "toss." Also I put things "away" not "up"

@travellingbee: @MamaBehr: @Torchwood: I didn't realize "put it up" was a regional thing! Totally normal here in VA!

I've heard chuck it, toss it, throw it away all in equal use around here.

I'm in Texas and I think I might have heard chunk/chuck it...although rare. I have heard pitch it, "I'm going to pitch that bad fruit in the bowl," or whatever.

@photojane: me neither. Put it up is totally common in the part of tx im at.

"Chunk it" sounds so gross and reminds me a lot of the first trimester.
