I've been teaching Charlie to solve jigsaws by putting together a face, then extending to body, legs, etc. Seems to work ok with his level of cognition, altho it's puzzle specific. He's able to solve puzzles with supervision though!
Bee pointed out that we tend to solve puzzles using edges and corners first! That's the next focus... and I think it's really helping!
How do you solve jigsaw puzzles? Any puzzle tips for Charlie?

I have always done edges first but DD really doesn't like doing that. She prefers to find things she recognizes (like a face) and work from there even though it's not as "efficient." I think at her age that probably makes sense ...

I hate puzzles and avoid them like the plague. I can't see the point. I guess I better brush up on my skills for doing them with a LO.

Man, I haven't done a puzzle for aaaages. Hmm, I guess when I would do them, I'd start with the edges first, and/or any "key" pieces (like a face, a house, etc.).

I generally teach DD to do the edges first, but it also depends on the puzzle. Sometimes it is easier to go by faces or colors.

We always sorted out the edges and built the frame first then worked our way in.

I love doing puzzles! I also do the edges first, then work on areas that have the same pattern

I always have done edges first, then recognizable objects, then piece together the rest.
