Do you stay home or go out of town? Christmas dinner at your home or someone else's? Any fun holiday traditions that you partake in each year?
Or anyone not celebrate Christmas and do something else during the holidays?

I like waking up on Christmas morning in my own home - we leave around noon for my mom's house for dinner and gifts with all the siblings and nieces/nephews.
Also there is zero traffic on Christmas Day - its a 3 hour drive and we get there so fast!

@Mamaof2: that sounds so fun! I agree, I always prefer waking up Christmas morning in my own home, this year we're in a hotel Do you stay at your mom's house that night or drive back home?

@alohaorchid: we stay for the night and then come home the next day - this year we are staying a few extra days since its close to the weekend!

@alohaorchid: no, we usually do Thanksgiving with his family.
Is this your 1st year not at home for Christmas? Or do you always travel/stay in hotels?

@Mamaof2: Oh right, I forgot about Thanksgiving! That's a great way to divide the holidays. We stay in a hotel every other year

We go out of town to see the IL's. This year we are going the weekend before Christmas. They aren't happy that we aren't driving down on Christmas Day anymore. But DH and I stopped it last year, saying we want LO to grow up with enjoying Christmas at home and not spending it in the car, which is so depressing. We go to my parents for Christmas Eve with the whole family and drive home late so we wake up on Christmas in our house.

We always used to host Christmas Eve but last year we had a newborn and this year we're moving the day after Christmas so we've gotten away from that tradition. I'd like to start up again next year. Our parents are both local so we split the holidays but it's not bad since we don't have to drive too far.

@Smurfette: we have no local family but if we did I would love to do a Christmas Eve gathering with them - sounds like a great way to spend the evening!

@Smurfette: I think that sounds like a great plan As a child we always, always spent Christmas morning at home, and our extent of travelling on Christmas Day was just to dinner at our grandparents houses. Then when we moved continents we always stayed home since there was nowhere to go. It was the best and definitely memories I treasure!
I love that you're putting that in place for you LO.
@Mamaof2: I actually just told DH that I'm going to do that! I'm going to see if I can get something real so it smells nice
@MOMTOLITTLEB: That's awesome that both sets of parents are local, it makes things easier for sure. Good luck with your move!

@Mamaof2: @MOMTOLITTLEB: I agree with this too, Christmas Eve has always been my favourite day of the holidays. We did a fondue night last year on Christmas Eve and it was so much fun.

@Mamaof2: It is my favorite night of the year. We all go to church and then come back for dinner and presents. There are like 40 people, so total chaos, but I love it!
