Do they "play" or ignore each other? My kids seem to like the dog but also don't really play him. But he's getting older and isn't as playful anymore. I imagined them being best friends but they are more like roommates.

B goes back and forth - sometimes he likes to pet the cats, sometimes he shoves them away from him wailing "Noooo!" W is fascinated by them, and one of our cats is obsessed with babies, so she's constantly flopping down basically on top of him while he stuffs her tail in his mouth.

@travellingbee: Yeah, it's funny - at a certain point she loses interest, she doesn't care about B, but when they're on the ground she's all over them. She also likes to push her head against him when he's in the Jolly Jumper so he spins in circles, and walk between his legs so he's riding her.

They interact a lot more these days! DD is 17 months, and 2 labs are 3 and 4, so still young and full of energy! DD has just started to throw a ball for the dogs (granted only about 2-3 feet in front of her...) and she loves their tails! the dogs will be walking around and DD will walk behind the dogs like swatting their tails, never pulling, she's very gentle. Then the dogs go up and lick her face. The dogs are so amazing with DD, and she adores them.

My oldest currently hates our dog.
My middle is obsessed with both the dog and cats. The usually standoffish boy cat seems to really like her. He sleeps on her bed at night and refuses to leave.
The baby is interested in all animals but they don't really pay attention to her. The dog I think is still annoyed from when she was crossing and would pull up on her coat.

LO loves her dog. They still only cuddle and play about ten minutes on most days but yesterday she initiated taking her on a hike with her dad.. LO would be heartbroken if anything happened to her and she writes stories or draws pictures of her frequently. She said our dog is like a sister and wants a job dealing with dogs in the future. My theory is that because she doesn't have a sibling, she holds on to loving our dog even more so.

The dog mainly hangs around for food. DD loves playing with our dog! She pets her, tells her to do tricks, feeds her, throws her toys, etc. Our dog is older tho so not as enthusiastic.

DD adores our two dogs. My favorite thing she does is pick up their collars and run after them holding out the collar demanding that they put it back on. And she gets it right which collar goes on which dog.
Also she treats them like baby dolls, spreading her doll blankets out over their backs and patting them saying "Night night!" Then when she leaves for daycare in the morning she says "Bye-bye dogs!"
The dogs are fine with her and treat her pretty much the same as they do us, but with some extra wariness when she comes by that she might touch their paws, which they hate.

Our older son (3.5) likes to pet the dog, sit with him, and get kisses. That's about it. Every once in awhile he plays tug o war with him and his rope.
Our younger son (15m) is obsessed with the dog. He chases him, hugs him, tries to kiss him...it's never ending.
Our dog is 10 and probably would rather be left alone 90% of the time lol
