DD has only recently asked me about her privates so I told her that she has a "vagina". She likes to watch "Ni Hao Kai Lan" and thinks that I am calling it "China". So whenever I say "vagina", she starts singing their song "I'm going to China! I'm going to China!" and calls it "my China".

HA! Right now LO is too little to call it anything, but like you I am going to encourage "vagina" since I think the euphemisms some people use are kind of creepy (I am thinking of my grandmother who called it a "peek-a-boo"... gross).

haha!!! Wagon Jr. calls it his "weewee" and butt is "bum". Necessary to decide on what to call them when you start potty training...!! Especially with a boy who has to push his penis down when he pees.

I will just tell her to call it her private part til she is olde.r I dont want her yelling vagina out at the wrong time. Plus little girls dont even know much or "use" their vagina. Most kids want to know where they pee from and So if I was gonna be technical I would have to explain all the parts which is too much for a little girl to grasp.

My niece calls her whole lower half her "butt". So she'll tell my SIL that she's changing her butt when shes getting a diaper change lol

When DD started potty training, I tried calling her girl parts "front" and butt "back" but DH decided it should be called her "who-ha" however DD refers to it as her "ah-ha". Her butt is butt.

DS can't talk yet but interesting discussion... I suppose we'll just try to stick with penis even though wee wee is probably what I might have used lol!!

DD is only 4months so this isn't an issue yet. But I think we'll use the French words "zezette" for girl parts and "zizi" for boy parts even when speaking English...

Peeny and Butt. But he doesn't call them anything. We call it that. He can point to all of his body parts but the only one he has said is "no" for nose.

@Mrs. Pen: yeah. Very typical story of starting out meaning well and ending up doing the very thing you didn't wanna do. 2 year olds tend to yell and repeat things a lot, and I didn't want him to be screaming "PENIS DOWN!" through the mall and stuff. At least when he refers to his wee-wee, it's cute. He's always like "look at my wee-wee, mommy" which I tell him immediately not to do but at least I can kind of giggle at it. If he were to say "look at my penis, mommy" I'd just feel a little weird. He's still a baby to me. 
I'll teach him to refer to it as penis once he's older. Maybe when he starts having health classes in school.

DS says his "boy parts", for awhile he would say winky instead. When I change DD's diaper he says "don't forget to clean her girl parts" so that just what we're sticking to until they are older.

My boys know penis and testicles and they usually call their butt a bum or butt. They have asked if girls pee out of their bums since they don't have a penis. I said no they just have another hole in the front. We didn't really get into what a vagina is yet since all they are really interested in is how girls pee and poop. I told them the word urethra and they just ignored it and said sister has holes.

@mrbee: yeah, WJ leans forward too but it's not enough. His... anatomy makes it necessary for some help from his hands. He'd probably do well standing up but I'm just not willing to live through the process of learning how to aim! He's aiming this way, anyway, so I guess it doesn't even really matter.
