We are in the same boat. Its a nightmare in the car. LO1 doesn't say anything, but if I watch her closely I can see that she is reacting to it. She sort of tenses up, and she doesn't sing or talk like she usually does. (She is 2.5 years). Honestly its such a bummer that LO2 hates the car seat but car rides were just starting to get fun and super relaxed with LO1.

When we first brought LO2 home, LO1 (2.5yo) would get upset by him crying. We taught her that he cries "because he doesn't know how to talk". She has never been around babies.

After the first month or so she doesn't even notice him crying.

He either ignores it, sleeps through it, or calls out, "Baby!"

My oldest gives the best BEC look to his little brother when he's crying. So unamused by him. Other times, it's cute comforting.

Sometimes he ignores it other times he runs over to me and tells m the baby is crying or he tells the baby to be quiet!

Ugh, we had that nightmare last year - DD2 hated the car with a passion and would scream bloody murder every single time we went anywhere in the car. If we were in the car longer than 30 minutes, she'd usually pass out for a 20 minute nap, but then resume screaming as soon as she woke up.

Unfortunately for us, her screams would set DD1 off (she is 19 months older) so I would have two howling babies in my backseat - this went on from when DD2 was a month old or so until about 7 months of age. It was hell - I tried turning the radio up, singing, or just trying to focus on something else, but it never worked and more often than not, I'd end up in tears and just completely frazzled. DD1 has always been very sensitive to DD2's cries but it was only in the car that one's cries would set off the other.
