I seriously don't get it... it somehow gets so grimy just from dust. How does that work... does porcelain attract dust or something? Is there a static cling issue at play here?
I am seriously wondering: how does that little strip of porcelain behind the toilet seat get so dirty?

I always blame DH, actually. Like... not to be gross, but we are talking about dirty toilets here-- the splatter from someone peeing standing up makes it a bit damp, which makes the nasty dust stick to it better. But I generally blame him for all grossness in the bathroom, other than my long hair shedding.

@Foodnerd81: well I ran an experiment. I stopped using that toilet for a few months, to see if it was me. I also wipe down the toilet after every use.
Anyway, the other toilet still attracted mega dust. So I'm wondering what it could be...

@mrbee: My husband is a clean freak and wipes down the toilets after each use as well. So I know it's not him! But damn, I still cannot figure it out!

It gets dusty along the sides of the toilet seat too... maybe it's a combination of static and moisture.

Well, I know porcelain is prone to moister. Have you ever seen your toilet sweating before? So, I guess it makes sense that dust would stick to it easily.
Especially if it's a bathroom that a lot of showers are taken in. Humidity central!

@.twist.: Ah interesting, didn't realize that toilet sweat was a thing! Makes sense that the cold tank water would cause condensation if the air was hot!!
Our current tank doesn't sweat too much though... but I think the toilet does get wet from the showers and baths we take in that particular bathroom!

Anyway, yeah, agree with everyone else, back of toilet=gross.
