And how old are they? My LO just turned 3 and draws the head/body as one and the limbs come from that. No hands or feet yet. She does eyes and mouth but rarely a nose. It's fun to see how her people advance as she grows though!

@Bao: You may have seen my LO's most recent drawing on FB. She does the same--just limbs coming out of the heads. She used to do lines for eyes and she's graduated to circle eyes and even adding noses. You can see her progression in these two.
ETA: She's 3.

Amazing! @NovBaby1112: same here! My almost 3 year old has zero interest in sitting down and trying to draw anything

@NovBaby1112: @hilsy85: My LO didn't really start drawing people until a little after she turned 3. You'll have plenty of jellyfish looking people pictures soon enough!

@NovBaby1112: @hilsy85: my LO loves to draw, color and paint though. But there are other activities that she has zero interest in, it's all about personality/interests, I think!

My 3yo just started drawing people in the past few weeks! Our pedi told us that a 3 year old draws "potato people" (eg. Head with limbs), and around 4, the figures will have bodies.
LO is obsessed with hair so her people have eyes, nose, mouth and lots and lots of hair.

My 3y/o makes a circle and then adds circles for eyes with dots inside for pupils. She does a little circle for a nose and a line for a mouth. Arms and legs come out of the big circle and she scribbles circles on the ends for hands and feet. She also adds a scribble at the top for a "minnie bow" and two circles for minnie ears. They're so cute!

My lo doesn't even draw people! Although, she has drawn a cat as basically a circle with a few lines coming out!

The first one is a month after she turned four and the other masterpiece when she turned four and a half. I agree. It is fun to watch their development.Oh and they are all sleeping. First one is a person dreaming of a dog. She does regular eyes with pupils when she draws eyes open.

I honestly haven't asked her to draw a person before so I asked her last night and this is what I got. She just turned 3

My son is 4.5 and his people look like potatoes with arms and legs. He's not that into drawing though. He's more of a builder and makes pretty intricate Lego vehicles.

Yep, my 3 year old also draws the blob people with heads, legs and arms coming from the head, hair, eyes, noses and mouths.

Awww these people drawings are adorable! My son is almost 3 and barely draws a circle. He is just not into drawing.

DD is into drawing faces recently. It's getting pretty detailed with eyebrows, hair and a nose. I think they're pretty good for a 3 yr old

@misolee: ummmm I'm impressed! My son is 2 and pretty much only can draw lines and maybe some circles. But he also has barely any interest in drawing.

DD1 is 3.5 and she won't draw the whole body... just the head, along with eyes, eyebrows, hair, cheeks, nose, ears and mouth (I still have to ask what some pieces are)

aww I'm so excited for this! I actually read this really interesting article once on art development in kids, and it discussed how nearly every toddler begins with that "blob" drawing initially, and there are different stages kids progress through. It was really cool, I should see if I can find it.
ETA: It was very similar to this one! http://www.artjunction.org/young_in_art.pdf
My son is 3.5, but he hasn't ever tried to draw people. He tries to draw trucks and that's about it.
