I started actively planning my LO's first birthday when she was 6 months. I was planning in my head before she was born though.
She's 14 months old and I've already started buying for her next party.... but if I switch themes I'll be able to use the decorations for something else. I just can't help myself!

Ha, I don't think I'm doing a big party for her 1st....maybe just a small family only party. My friends are all obsessed and they plan a year in advance and spend a ton of money!

Seriously planning? I started coming up with ideas right after he. Was born. But I've only been seriously planning a few weeks, LO is 4 months.

I started planning probably when LO was 6 months old. It was a small party for family and some close friends at our house. I left most DIY details until the last minute and will plan better next year.

@autumnlove: See I like to do early planning to save money! I do a lot of DIY and it takes time, and I shop sales, especially after holiday sales, so depending on the theme I have to shop early.

LO is 7 months and I've started thinking about venue, decorations, etc. I need to get on it!

we only have small family parties at this stage, and I don't buy things very far in advance but I'm always thinking about it and pinning things

@Mrs. Superhero: I'm jealous. I wanted LO's first birthday to be a small family party. But DH likes to include EVERYONE and thinks that family means all aunts and uncles, not just LO's but ours too, and he also wants close friends..... and all of those people add up! I do admit it's nice to have all of those people who love LO here to celebrate with us, but it's a lot of work!

The amount of time I party plan ahead of time got less and less as my first kid got older and after the second one came along! I guess throwing more parties over time has helped me be more efficient at it! But yeah, I do like to think about it in my head for months in advance. DD 1 and I talk all the time too about what she wants to do for her next birthday party. Her wishes about it change all the time!

@artbee: not sure when he'll be born, but since it's so close to Christmas, we'll probably do a Sunday brunch at a nice restaurant.
Either that, or possibly going to celebrate it in CA with my family. And spend the holidays out there.
Definitely wont do as many DIY projects. oh the joys of being 2nd born..

@chopsuey119: I just went to a 2nd child's first birthday and she reused all of her DIY's! But she has two boys so it was a jungle/animal theme, not a girly/spring theme
