I'm very close to my identical twin who came 4 minutes before me. Here's the whole family:
* Eldest sister: 6 years before me
* Older brother (twin): 4 minutes before me
* Me
* Younger sister: 3 1/2 years after me.
My wife is very close to her brother, who is very closely spaced to her:
* Bee
* Younger brother: 14 months younger than her
I'm curious if people are closer to their closely-spaced siblings, or to the siblings who are spaced farther apart!

I just have one sibling, a sister who is 4 years younger. We're close now, but it wasn't until I was in college that we became close. And in many ways we're very different people, personality-wise, and I think that prevents us from being truly "sibling close."
My husband is the middle of 3 boys - older brother is 4 years older, younger is 2 years younger. I would say of the two, he's closer to his younger brother, but actually the 2 brothers are closer to each other than either is to him. I feel bad for him, sometimes, because I think he often feels left out.

My brother is 3.5 years older. We were both adopted, and not biologically related. We are emotionally close, if that makes sense, but we're aren't calling each other all the time or anything.

We were not close growing up at all. Often people thought we were only children. Just recently, last 3 years or so we have made an effort to become friends.

My younger brother and I are 20 months apart and we are very close. I think most of it is our similar personalities, our shared faith, and having had to spend a lot of time together growing up because our parents were always working 12+ hour days.
Interests-wise or even friends-wise we've had different tastes along with our similarities, but at our core we're the same.

I'm not close with any of them, but it has nothing to do with age and everything to do with personality.
D has two older brothers and they are all almost exactly 2.5 years apart, and they are all very close, but again, it's more personality than ages.

My sister and I fought like crazy growing up. Only one grade apart, some overlapping friends, etc.
We all talk basically daily in a group chat. My sister is really different then me, totally different lifestyle, etc but we get along pretty good. I've learned to ignore what I used to fight her on. She is very very strongly opinionated. Once I learned to ignore her and my dads opinions and just nod, we got along much better!
My brother lives far away but he's funny and we love him. He's the bratty baby of the family and can do no wrong

I have an older sister and younger brother. We are all 18 months apart. We are close but mostly cause my family gets together a lot. We don't just call/text each other otherwise. My sister and I will email like once a week. We just are very different people.

I have more hobby similarities with my oldest sister (sports/beer/little things).
I am much closer with my middle sister...we relate very well in our career paths and general opinions of the world and people. She is my sanity check person.

My sister is 7 years younger than me! Growing up it was hard to be close, I'd say we got a lot closer once I was college age. We are probably not AS close b/c we're just in completely different stages in life, but I am happy with our relationship and wouldn't change a thing!

17 months from me to next oldest. Ironically that is the same age gap as my two children and we are super close just like my brother and I are.
The youngest (third) child is almost 5 years younger than us. We aren't close to him at all--I'm a big believer in even numbers so I wish my parents had a 4th!

I have an older brother. He is 2 years 8 months older, but we were 3 grades apart. We were very close growing up, in high school, college, and through our 20s. Now we live an hour from one another... We get along, but we are busy and don't see each other a lot. Every couple of months we get together with the kids.

I had a brother who was 3.5 years older than me. We didn't get along as kids, but in late teens, we became really great friends. He unfortunately passed away when I was 19.
My husband's brother is 6 years older than him, and they didn't become close until my husband was later teens/early 20s and they're very close now.

I'm closest to my middle brother, but it has more to do with that brother being better about keeping in touch and personality than age difference.
My husband has a sister, who is a year and 3 days older than him. They aren't close at all.

I have a brother who's 5.5 years younger than me. We are not at all close. When we were younger it was because of the age difference, but now it's because of extremely different personalities and lifestyles.
It was important to me to have kids close-ish in age because I always felt like my brother and I were so far apart.

I would say we are all close now, but there were times growing up when we were not close at all. A lot of girls in a small house means lots of drama! Now that we are older, and 2 of us live on our own, it's much better. I suspect it will be better still when everyone has their own place! In general, though, we are really close.
I grew up thinking that this was normal spacing, because it was similar for almost all of my friends, to have siblings 2 years apart. DH has a wider gap in his family (3 years and 11 years younger), and they are all pretty close as well. I had to let go of the idea of kids close in age. Hoping now for a 3 or 3.5 year gap!
Eta: my parents also had a rule growing up that if we couldn't get along with our sisters, then we weren't allowed to have friends. They would cancel our plans with friends if we couldn't make peace with each other. They always told us "your friends will come and go, but your sisters are your sisters forever." At the time, it was annoying as heck and sometimes infuriating. But now I am grateful!

My sister is almost 3 years younger than I am and my brother almost 4 years younger than she is. I would say that we are close, in that we love each other dearly, but we're spread out across the country and so don't talk to or see each other nearly often enough. Growing up we did play together some, but also had our own things going on as well.

My siblings are 12,16,and 18 years older than me. We're not close. But they are obviously closer in age and they still aren't emotionally close with each other. I think age span is only one component.

I am 18 months younger than my brother, 17 months older than my sister and 3.5 years older than my youngest sister.
I was close with my brother until he was about 10. And then relatively close with him again from age 16-18. Now we rarely talk because he hates talking on the phone and we live across the country from each other.
I was not close to any of my siblings for a while in my late teens and early 20s. Now that my sister has kids, we are MUCH closer! I have never been close with my youngest sister.
The ebb and flow of our relationships over the years has helped me realize that sibling spacing probably doesn't matter that much. It's more about personality and stage of life.
My husband is four years apart from his younger brother though, and they didn't get close at all until the past couple years. He does not want that much spacing for our kids!

Middle child here with two brothers. Brother #1 is 2.5 years older, and brother #2 is 3.5 years younger. We are all very close and enjoy spending time together, but are not huge communicators so we're not chatting or texting or anything (but I don't do that with my girlfriends or husband either, so...). We get along really well.
Brother #1 lives two states away (quick 1-hr flight or 1 day's drive), but comes to visit 1-2x per year, and going forward I'd like to go visit him at least 1x a year as well. Brother #2 lives only 30 minutes from me, but works in an industry that takes him far away from home for 6-8 months at a time. When he's home we try to get together every few weeks.
