When we travel as a family, we try to book a couple months in advance.
Headed to CA at the end of June. wOot!

I read an article recently that 54 days prior to departure is the cheapest date to book flights!

It depends. I just went on vacation and I booked that 6 months back! I heard the magic # is about 54 days.

Depends. We watch prices before booking. In February or March we booked for the middle of June and beginning of July. I'm currently stalking prices for Thanksgiving if we're not pregnant soon.

@LindsayInNY: You're really on top of it! We have a tentative trip in July that we didn't even start looking at yet!

I just booked tickets for July last week- and that's a pretty normal amount of time for me. Tickets were cheaper about three weeks ago, though.

I've read 4-6 weeks out is best, but I've also read 54 days. I'd start stalking prices now, but I'm guessing for the end of June it'll be another month before they're at their cheapest.

I just read on Pinterest that 6 weeks before on the Tuesday is the cheapest.

Depends if our travel arrangements can be moved...if we know far enough in advance when we'd like to go, we play around with dates to see what the best deals are. We're also really flexible with our departure airport, but not as much with our destination airport.
For hotels, we book as soon as we see a deal, IF they have a cancellation policy.

Usually a month in advance. Hotels - I can go up to two weeks before.

For flights, as soon as we confirm our dates. So 2-3 months before.
For hotels, we like to wait til the last minute. I don't want to chance being wrong and having to cancel our reservation.

Usually 4-6 weeks in advance. Sometimes less if we are being indecisive

I stalk flights but also i like that 6 week rule. Also i've had good luck with tuesday afternoons (apparently the lowest prices of the week for booking flights)
