We're trying to establish a bedtime routine for LO2. He's 9 weeks old. It;s been two days and it just feels useless...
How long after starting a routine did your LO recognize bed time cues? How long before it helped their sleep?

We started between two and three months, and it took at least a couple of weeks. I the end we still ended using the Ferber method, but having the bedtime routine in place seemed to help make that work faster and go easier. Much as it doesn't feel like it in the middle of a sleep deprived night, two weeks is nothing - it's not enough time for a routine to take hold.

@knittylady: Oops, I meant to say two nights the last time - sorry! Baby #2 is 5 weeks old, my fingers and brain aren't communicating too well through the lack of sleep, haha. I also started doing a bedtime routine a few days ago...he's probably a bit young for it to make a difference, last time we waited about as long as you did, but I need my sleep back!

My LO is 7 weeks old, and we started a bedtime routine about 1.5 weeks ago. I'm not sure whether its the routine, or other things we are doing, but I think its slowly started to work. She only sleeps max. 30 min. naps in the daytime, and it used to be the case for night time sleep as well. This past week, she has been sleeping about 2 hour stretches during the night (which still isnt a lot). We've also had a couple 3-4 hour stretches.

@knittylady: We started our night routine around 8 weeks with our LO. I didn't feel until closer to 4 months that it was actually doing anything, but now at 10 months, it has paid off big time! He goes down easy, and no matter where we are for the night, as long as we do his routine, he goes right to sleep.
