Hi everyone. I applied for a new job last month. It's been almost three weeks since the application deadline. How long does it usually take for an employer to get back to you if they're interested in an interview?
DH and I put off TTC this month just in case. I'm thinking we should go back to trying next cycle, I feel like if they were interested they'd have called me within a month?

Yes, I would assume that within a month they would have called to schedule interviews if they were serious about hiring someone shortly.

I've found it really depends on the employer... anywhere from a few weeks to two months. It's also summer so people might be on vacation and that's delaying things..

Depends! I work in academia and it can take months. I agree with @Banana330; it's tough to schedule around vacations so that could also slow the process down.

Even in my little company, it totally depends. I see my boss sit on resumes for weeks or even months sometimes, but when we need to hire quickly, we get back within a week or two. You could always send a quick note to ask what their timeline is.

It really depends--in my current job it took almost 2-month from when I submitted my application to when I started. I can't remember how long it took to get an interview. With my new job it was less than 24 hours between submitting my application and calling for an interview, but it was very specialized and I just happened to tick all the boxes (plus they wanted someone to start quickly).
However two years ago I spent an absurdly long time job searching while unemployed. I found that it was best for me mentally if I mentally moved on as soon as I hit "submit" on the application--otherwise I would get fixated on the "perfect" job and inevitably wind up disappointed if I didn't even get a call back.

Thanks everyone. Based on the application it seems like they wanted someone as soon as possible. But it also seemed like they would be hiring a lot of people. Maybe I will just assume the worst, that they aren't interested.

I wouldn't assume anything (easier said than done!) until you hear one way or the other. I'm currently hiring a position and was on vacation immediately after the closing date, then really busy on other deadlines after that. It was a good 2-3 weeks before I started reviewing apps, much less contacting to start the interview process. Good luck!

@Shizaz: I think it's perfectly acceptable for you to do a follow-up call. Let them know that you're still interested in the position and ask if they've considered your application.
