R is 11 wks and around 10 lbs maybe a little more and I think it's time to ditch the insert. The Chico guidelines say up to 11 lbs. When did you ditch it?

@winniebee: yikes!!! I should've ditched it long ago. Truth be told I think she has outgrown the Chico....but it is SO cold I don't want to give it up! She's so cozy with the bundle me shower cap.

Never used it with the 1st and after about a month with the 2nd.

we had a graco 35 and I think the instructions was to ditch the insert when you raise the harness above the 2nd slot. So when we moved her to the 3rd slot we took the insert out. No clue when that was or how much she weighed.

I forgot how long we used it vs how long we were supposed to, but for some reason I didn't even realize it was an infant insert on the Mesa...I just thought it was the inside of the seat. Eventually he looked cramped and I took it out.

From what I have read on car seats for the littles, As long as the straps come from below the shoulders you can ditch the insert. You can keep the head one in as long as you want though.

When he hit 11 pounds, per the chicco keyfit guidelines. He was looking cramped in there, so he seems more comfortable without it!

Like a day or two! She screamed and screamed so I tried without it and she was happy as a clam.
Eta: chicco. I asked CSFTL and they said as long as straps are below shoulders it's fine.
