We have lived in our starter home for 1.5 years, can't wait to buy a bigger home! Not for a few more years though.
How long did you live in your starter home before buying a bigger house?

Our first house wasn't a starter home, but we have been there for about 5 years. We just sold it and are closing on our new house at the end of the month.

6 years and rented it for 2 years on top of that.

We haven't decided if this house is a starter house yet or not lol. If we only have one LO, then we will probably be here for at least 10 years, and spend the time making it exactly what we want. If we have another LO.... then we will be here max 5 years.

DH bought our townhouse before we even met, so I don't know if I can consider it my starter home.... but it still was our first home together. We lived there for about 3 years, and decided to upgrade when I got pregnant with LO.

We were in our first home for almost 5 years, we close at the end of next month on our forever home.

our plan is to stay in our current (1st) house for another 3-5 years (we've been here almost 4 now) by then we'll probably be working on baby number 2 and no place to put it. Also hopefully by then the market will have recovered and/or we'll have enough equity in to afford a bigger home

We've been here for 8 months and i'm itching to move again lol! We'll be here for another 3-4 years though.

What defines a starter home? Size, number of bedrooms?
We just now bought our first home together, and it's one we plan to be in for at least 10 years, unless circumstances move us sooner. It's a 4 bedroom/2 full bath house, with a playroom and 2 car garage.

We bought our co-op coming on 3 years now and are getting serious about looking for our forever house. I hope to be out of here within the year.

It'll be 4 years in July and we probably won't upgrade for a couple more years.

Even though we started out buying our forever home, we had originally planned on a simple starter home (3 bedroom ranch style home). If we went with a starter home, we would be in the market for a bigger house right now (3.5 years later). A smaller home would be fine for a family of three, but it would be too cramped with another kid on the way.

We're currently in our starter home, going on 5 years now. We were ready to upgrade to our forever home about 1.5 years ago, but other things have come up (investment properties like our 2 farms) and we're still deciding if we want to stay in Texas or move back to Oklahoma. If anything, I'm hoping to at least move to a bigger house next year.

We've been here for 3 years and will probably be there for maybe another year before we move into our *hopefully* forever home!

We'll be at 4 years in November with our condo. As we were baby birthstone ring shopping today, DH kept on mentioning getting another band in the future for another LO next year! First time, he's really talked about it. Eventually, we'll move out of our condo (2 bed, 2 bath) to possibly the suburbs. The hard part is that I love our neighborhood and our daycare.

We plan on paying off our current home before moving from it, and keeping it as an investment property. We're 2.5 years in and we probably have another 2 years.

WE are hitting 3 yeras and starting to get restless and ready to sel, I'm guessing 2 more years and we will be out!

1 year, 5 months before moving into our (hopefully!) forever home.

Just moved into our first house about 2 weeks ago Not sure if I'd call it a "starter home" or not because that kindof implies that we intend to grow out of it in just a couple years, but this house has wayyy more space than we have ever had while renting, so it seems like we wont outgrow it for a long time. I am not going to be naive and expect to stay here for 10 years, but all of our neighbors that we have talked to have lived here over 10yrs and didn't intend to stay that long, but fell in love with the community, etc haha - and it's a great community! The house has 3BR, so I am thinking if we decided to have a 2nd baby, we will need to think about finishing the basement to move our office there, and that is an expensive project! I think we will probably be here 5-7 years at least.

We've been here 3 years and will stay until we have baby #2! Probably at least 2 more years.

Interesting question, subscribing.
We are in our first home for 2.5 years now, we aren't sure when we will move or if we will ever move.

2.5 years. We would've stayed longer if we hadn't moved across the country...until we were planning a 2nd LO at least (so maybe 5 years?).

We just moved in, but it has plenty of space and we hope to just upgrade as we go and stay here a while. The school district is good too. Great neighbors...I can't complain! So a minimum of 5 years, probably longer though.

We stayed in our first home (condo) for about 5 years. There was plenty of room for 2 people, not so much once LO and all of LO's things were there! We still own the condo and rent it out and we joke that in 20 years when LO is off to college we'll move back into our in-town city condo!

It's been 2 years and will probably be a couple more. It's brand new so it's very nice. We will probably love when we have kids.

I've been in it for 6.5 years now - we hope to move into a new house by the end of the year.
