I did six months the first time around, not sure what to do next time....maybe that was overkill?

I started the day I got off bcp knowing it would take awhile to get KU

I started three months before TTC. I heard that's how long the egg matures before being dropped during ovulation.

didn't. also rarely took them while pregnant, didn't at all while bfing, haven't even bought any so far this pregnancy.
what can I say... I hate taking pills

Ever since I got sick with Crohn's so for about 7 years now even though we aren't TTC yet. My GI doctor said it would be a good idea so I did. I was 22 when I started.

Honestly I didn't start until we started TTC...but I ended up taking them for 13 months before we got pregnant.

Years. A prenatal has been my standard multivitamin since I was 18. My dr recommended it as soon as you're of child bearing age. A little extra iron and folic acid never hurt anybody. Especially since I'm slightly anemic, if I didn't take a prenatal, I'd have to take iron separately anyway.

they say up to a year or more is best because it takes a while to build up stores. I took them 6 months.

Oh man. DH and I just got in an argument about this last night. I'd say it was our first real fight! How crazy is that?!
I started taking them in August of 2011, 4 months before we officially started TTC.
Well after my last MC (April) my doc said I could take a break from them. So I pretty much got really lazy and stopped taking ALL my vitamins. DH has been bugging me about starting them up again and I finally did last night, but we still argued about it. How lame!

3 months and ill probably just stay on them thru breastfeeding until we ttc #w2

4 months but I was out of multi vitamins so I just bought prenatal to say money since I would need them on a month or two.

I suspect it depends on your diet. Folic acid is the big deal in the early days of pregnancy, so that seems to be why the recommendation is to start before you could get pregnant. I took them for about 4-5 months pre-pregnancy, as it turned out. I quit after they ran out once LO was born.

I use it as my regular multivitamin. I've been on it four years.

My dr is against taking them until you get a I'm not sure I agree with her for most ppl, but I stopped taking them because my folate level is abnormally high & I have a B12 deficiency. The combination has been shown to be more detrimental than a normal level of folate in conjunction with a b12 deficiency. So I'm not worried about a lack of folate harming a fetus (since my levels are elivated to begin with), I do worry about long term cognitive damage from any extra folate. Not sure I will ever take them, we'll see what my levels are like when I get KU & reassess.

I started to take them shortly before my wedding. Good thing!

I heard 3 months and did that last time. But this time I only did it 2 months ahead..... we planned on starting to TTC in another month but spontaneously decided to try a month early.

I started taking them 6 months before ttc, right when I went off bc. I was on them a year and a half before getting my BFP. I started taking extra folic acid 3 months before our BFP.

I started about a month before my wedding which was almost a year before we conceived. My OBGYN recommended starting prenatals in October because we were going to TTC in January. We got pregnant through IVF in September.

Been on a regular multivitamin for about a year (has 400mcg folic acid), and added an additional folic acid supplement and Omega 3s this month, starting TTC in Aug/Sept!

I started folic acid 3 mos before and prenatals as soon as I found out we were pregnant. We weren't really actively TTC, but I probably should have been on them sooner than that anyhow!

Almost three months, I believe. Somewhere/somehow I got that time frame in my head.

I'm still taking them. We're not TTC for #2 for awhile yet, but I like my Rainbow Lights so much. I don't plan on switching vitamins anytime soon.
