I didn't but we had a bunch of Carter's onsies that were long sleeves that has the thing that folded over to cover his hands. It was winter though. I think I did that for about a month.

We didn't use them. He only knicked himself, minorly, a couple of times.

We never used mittens. LO has held my fingers/hand to soothe herself from basically day 1 and she never liked her hands or arms to be restricted (so she hated swaddling, too). I just trim her nails every night after she's asleep to keep the sharp claws at bay!

For the first week or so, then I got brave enough to cut his nails.

We used socks instead of mittens and kept them on for a few months. My LO had pretty bad eczema and would attack his body every chance he could.

Only for the first few weeks and we hardly used them because she would suck on them and then cover her face and I worried she couldnt breathe

We used them, but not for very long. I think we used them for a few weeks...maybe a month, max.

@yin: We have the same problem, my LO has eczema and attacks himself daily. He knows how to take both mittens and socks, but will leave them on at night for good measure. Probably taking pity on his parents.

We never used mittens. If the sleeper/onesie had the fold over cuff we would use those. But that was only for a couple weeks, then I just started filing her nails to prevent her from scratching herself.
