We use gluten free pasta, so I follow the exact directions ... Otherwise, it's no bueno!

@mrbee: I usually do a minute or two more than the box says. I got one bag of pasta that said "wait for reboil and boil 8 minutes"...so I set my timer once the water comes back up to a boil again which is usually a minute or less. I definitely taste it towards the end of the time to make sure it's the right chewiness. With LO I do tend to cook pasta a little longer than usual

I just taste test them! I hate when they are over cooked though.

Usually the box gives a time range of 9-11 min or something… if it's for myself, it's at the lower end… if it's for the kids, it's at the high end.

I usually cook it for longer than the box says, but I don't actually time it, I just taste it.

About a min less than the box says, then toss it with warmed sauce and let it simmer for about 1-2 minutes. I like it al dente

Always longer than box says. I probably overcook it, but I don't like it "hard". I think I usually end up cooking it for 12/13 mins even though the box says 8.

8 or 9 minutes. If I use whole wheat pasta about 10 minutes.

I don't really time it. For spaghetti, I throw it at the wall and if it sticks, it's done. For all other pasta, I taste test.

I cook a minute longer than the minimum time. The kids don't like it al dente!

I usually taste it or take out a piece and break it in half- if it's still white in the middle I will give it a few more minutes.

I taste it. If I am going to bake it in the oven, I usually way undercook it.
