My LO is 1 month old. Sometimes when I put him down to nap/sleep, he'll start to fuss after a minute or two later. When he was first born, I would immediately pick him up and rock him/see what's wrong. But now, I tend to wait a little bit (depending on the intensity of the fuss/cry) before picking him up because sometimes it's just a little bit of "wahh wahhh" and then he goes back to sleep. How long do you wait before picking up your baby? Is there a recommended time?

I don't go by a set amount of time. I just know that once her cry reaches a certain tone and/or volume, she is on her way to a point of no return anyway, so that's when I get her. But yes, like you, I do just wait a bit and see if she can self-soothe first.

I go by how she is crying and how intense it is to see when I should pick her up. In fact, I just put her back down after a night feed just now and she sounds like she is fussing but I'm hoping she goes back to sleep!!! *crosses fingers*

I agree with the PP's. I intervened way too much in the beginning and paid for it later.

When RJ was that young, I would only go back to him if his cries were escalating and I knew it would just get worse. If it stayed constant I'd be torn... but usually it would just quiet down and he'd fall asleep.
After sleep training we almost never went to him. He's great at falling back asleep now. At 2 years 3 months he still wakes up at night pretty often and cries, but he rarely cries for more than 60 seconds and is almost always back asleep within 3 or 4 minutes.

LO is almost 8 weeks and she doesn't self soothe very well at all. Her cries escalate almost every time, so I end up picking her up. But as soon as she starts to calm down and start getting sleepy, I immediately put her down.
I've tried letting her CIO at various intervals but it's not working yet - I'm jealous of the other people who's LO will self soothe!!

I picked up Baby X immediately in the first few weeks, then slowly started to let him cry if I just couldn't get to him (in the bathroom, taking the dog outside, etc.), but still I picked him up immediately if he cried and I physically could pick him up at that moment. Now, at 4.5 months, I pick him up or don't pick him up depending on the cry/why he's crying. Ex. Ignore or wait a few minutes for "I'm tired" cry, pick him up/respond quicker for "I'm hungry" or "I'm bored".

Granted my opinion may very well change when LO is actually on the outside, but I plan on picking up my baby every time she cries. I've read and learned in my hospital bringing home baby class that crying it out is antiquated and not recommended, and that after a year, once they start to grasp object permanence, babies who haven't been left to cry it out are more confident and feel safer exploring and learning.

My LO didn't cry much during the first few months of her life. Once she became more vocal I would pick her up when she had level 3 cries (on a scale of 1-3)
