I nurse my youngest to sleep. Often when I'm about to use the bathroom before I go to bed he wakes up cranky. This also happens when I'm trying to get him to sleep and all of a sudden gotta go. What do you do when you gotta go with a cranky baby wanting attention? If you wait for them to fall asleep or be calm, how long do you end up waiting?

I let her be cranky. The minute it takes me to pee won't kill her but it takes a lot longer than a minute to calm her down.

Lol, maybe because he's my second, I make him wait. But I also stick him in his crib and walk away for a few minutes and he's gotten much better at falling asleep on his own. Wish I'd done that more with my first!

@AprilFool: @lemondrop: I wish I could do that. I have this intense fear of DS throwing a fit and waking up DD. I also cosleep so DS doesn't know his crib yet. Starting in about 4 months he will.

I pee first. We also co-slept in the beginning and I'd just nudge DH to soothe my LO while I was gone for a minute.
I'm sure your DD will learn to sleep through DS having a fit

Pee first. The last thing I want is an emergency where I have to go NOW and a baby who JUST fell asleep being woken up by me getting up.

Yep, I pee first, too. Not only for him to learn to wait, but then I feel more comfortable and don't feel as rushed to get him to sleep.

If LO throws a fit for the minute or two it takes to use the bathroom, so be it. Kids need to learn the world does not revolve around them, otherwise it is going to be a very rude awakening for them once they start school/daycare or whatever other setting where they are with other kids and their needs are no longer supreme.

I make him wait! Using the bathroom is a basic need, so unless there's a major problem I let him fuss and cry.

I would use the bathroom. I look forward to a day I go to the bathroom without a baby crying or a toddler tantrumming/ whining/ barging in!
