I'm now on day 9 (second period postpartum). Really hoping it is not the new normal, as I've never had this happen before!

I think you need to give yourself a lot of time postpartum for a new normal!
I said 4 but ever since the stress of TTC, turning 31, loss etc I spot a lot before and after so more like 6.

@periwinklebee: oh yeah pp af can be so weird and awful. It was like a crime scene last time around ... but I do think it should eventually settle down. I’ve always spotted a lot before and after so have long af if you count that but had way more heavy days pp. Not looking forward to doing that again ...

@periwinklebee: my second pp period was the worst for me, it was 8-9 days and really heavy. I went back on birth control at that point since we are so far good with one and bc pcos is dreadful so I don't know what would have happened with the next period.
On birth control I'm usually a 4-5 day bleeder off bc it's more like 5-7.

I’ve always had long periods, usually 7 days but then an added day or two of spotting. Blah. They aren’t super heavy, they just linger.

@pachamama: @bhbee: Lol, I hope so Thanks! Glad it's normal. I've heard of the first one pp being bad, but didn't realize it was a persistent thing...
@snarkybiochemist: the one thing i miss about the pill is how light periods were

@periwinklebee: my first PP period was terrible! Had nexplanon put it at 6 weeks PP to end that crap, so don't know how bad the second would have been. After everything settled, and had my nexplanon removed my periods were 3-4 instead of 6-7 pre pregnancy.
Hopefully they get better

@periwinklebee: yea and even on birth control it took a good 6 months to get them back to being light and 4-5 days

@periwinklebee: definitely at least 3-4 months and maybe longer, I can’t remember ... are you officially trying again so maybe you won’t get there??? If so all the !

@Sams Mom: Ugh, and @snarkybiochemist: crazy that even with birth control it took that long to moderate!
@bhbee: Hah, that would be nice! Though I won't hold my breath I think I'll make more effort with OPKs this month...

It took me the better part of a year to normalize after my last pregnancy. Definitely don’t put too much stock into what your 2nd PP period is like.
I was getting mine every 2-3 weeks and it was a week long each time. For several months. But I’ve settled back into a very predictable 28 day cycle with 4-5 days in length (and that 5th day is almost more like spotting than period bleeding).
The Flo app has been helpful to see patterns and predict timing and length. I set the preferences to tracking for health reasons, not for TTC, which I’ve liked.
