Honestly it's been a year. He trained a few months before 3. He then started waking up at night to pee but we kept him in a pull up. He wakes up dry most nights but at least once a week is wet. He's almost 4.

@ValentineMommy: he doesn't usually wake up to pee anymore so that's good. In my May 2012 moms group it seems many are still in pull ups. And if they aren't there is still a fair amount of sheet changing. I have zero desire to change sheets MOTN and he's fine with wearing a pull up so pull ups it is!

She was day trained in September. She stays dry for nap. But outside a few odd nights when she wakes up dry (nights she doesn't really eat dinner) she is wet every morning. She will be 3 next week.

Our pedi said it can take til 6 years old for boys. Why do you want him out of pull ups at night?

My son just turned 5, I'd say he was consistently dry in the last year, and probably part of the year before that. We day trained at age 3 and he still wears a pull up at night (his choice) and I am fine with it because as a working mom, I don't want to deal with extra laundry during the week. Of course if he wanted to go to underwear, I'd be fine with that too.

The thing you actually want them to do is to wake up in the night when they need to use the bathroom, not hold it overnight.

We stopped putting a pull-up on overnight just this week and she's been fully trained for about a month. In reality, she only woke with a lightly wet pull-up the first 2-3 mornings after I considered her day trained. Mostly, the night pull-up was my own safeguard against the fear of her soaking through the bed. She wakes me or DH in the night maybe 3x/week to use the potty, but otherwise sleeps through and remains dry. She's 2.5. That being said, I think it's far, far more common for it to take 6-12+ months to do away with the overnight pee.

DD1 was 30 months when we trained. We had her in diapers overnight for the first few weeks but she only woke up wet once. In the seven months since we've had three wet bed incidents and one "there's peepee in my bed/totally dry bed" freak out.

Pretty quickly, because he started waking up to go potty. I hated it... (especially because I was pregnant with #2 and really needed the sleep, and apparently daddy isn't allowed to help with middle-of-the-night potty breaks). And then it became "I have to pee" every 2 hours, and we had to break that habit. He now consistently sleeps through without using the potty and/or will go on his own without waking us, but it was a rough transition.

All of which is to say, don't rush it

I was lucky and night trained at the same time. I figured I would just deal with the wet bedsheets and see where we go from there. Well he surprised me and had no accidents. He has been potty trained since 27 months, and he does occasionally wet his bed (maybe once every other month or so).

Our 3.5 year old was potty trained at 2 years old. We kept him in diapers at night for about 6 months or so. After his baby brother was born, he wanted nothing to do with diapers, so we put him in undies at night. He still had a nighttime potty break to stave off wetting the bed. Within the past few months since moving, he can go all night in undies without any issue at 3.5 years old. So, it's been a 1.5 year long process for us.

@ValentineMommy: I can't answer the poll but DS was dry immediately when he decided he was done with diapers. He just didn't want to wear them anymore so we told him the pull-up had to stay dry so that's what he did. So he trained daytime and nighttime at once.

@SeptMomma12: I pretty much just put the potty in his room and told him he was on his own. I think for awhile I told him I'd come once but no more. Then not at all. And then he started sleeping through. When he does wake now, he goes on his own.

@ValentineMommy: Well over a year, and the pediatrician told us not to worry if he still occasionally wets the bed till age 5.
Unfortunately for me, he refused to wear any kind of non-underwear "that's a diapey mommy!" item almost immediately from potty training (would wake up with it on the floor). They make all kinds of different mats and things, or you can deal with the sheets.

Char is 3 1/5, has been day trained for 8+ months, has been nap trained for 6+ months, and has no interest in being night trained. Wakes up with a soaking wet Pull-up every. damn. morning. She's attempted to try overnights 2-3 times and when I check on her at midnight, she's soaked the bed and is still sleeping like a rock!
