Our little guy just turned one week old today (!) and I am curious about how long you waited at home before taking Baby on his or her first outing. We had an appt with the pediatrician on Sunday and another one tomorrow, but can't decide if it's too early to go out elsewhere (no stores, no crowds, maybe for a walk if it's not too cold).

I am probably on the minority here, but we went to dinner the same day we got out of the hospital. That being said DS was in his car seat the whole time. We didn't really keep him home, we still went about our life. We were just sense able about where we took him .

i'm still working on cookin' my first, but in my family it's pretty common to take the lo's out in the first week or so. usually just short trips to get out of the house for an hour or so - target, dinner, visiting grandma. i'll be doing the same... i can't stand being trapped in the house for a long time!

We took him out for a walk the day after we came home from the hospital. The pedi said it was totally fine--fresh air isn't going to hurt a baby. Since then, we've been out almost every day.

When he was 9 days old we went to the mall with my mom. I desperately needed nursing bras and I was going stir crazy being cooped up in the house. We just kept him in his car seat with the shade on the stroller down.

I brought my baby home from the nicu and took her to the dog park the next morning in the moby wrap. I went right on with my life - I didn't see any reason to keep my perfectly healthy baby in a bubble.

She was 2 weeks old when we first brought her out. It was to a restaurant but during the day so there was barely anyone there.

She was 4 days old and we went for a walk and some ice cream. We also had a Dr's appt and 2 LC appts in the first two weeks. We weren't big on the stay home forever thing

We went to a ped appt at 3 days old, out to breakfast at 5 days old and out almost every day since! He's almost 6 weeks old now. He's usually in his carseat when we're out, definitely at stores.

Like 3 or 4 days? To Target and a consignment shop. In a car seat both times.

We stopped at Kohls the day after we came home to get smaller clothes. Definately in the life didn't stop group:)

5 days after he was born - we went to Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond for a short shopping trip. His doctor said going out was fine, but try to avoid grocery stores or overly crowded places for the first few weeks.

Babywearing is also an excellent way to prevent the unwashed masses from getting too near your newborn. A baby snuggled up to your chest in a wrap is very seriously in your personal space. I never had any trouble with people trying to grab at her uninvited that way.

4 days old. Her first trip was to the DMV and then to a fast food restaurant. She was fine. We kept her in the carrier the whole time. She's just over two weeks old now and she has been out to eat with us multiple times, to target, her pediatrician/ lab twice, and three times a week I take her to a breastfeeding support group meeting.

We took Baby out for a walk at about two weeks old and then to an appointment with an Osteopath the same week.
I was a bit of an emotional mess for the first couple of weeks so I wasn't ready to go anywhere (with or without LO) but now that she's four weeks old we're starting to go on regular outing's.

At 12 days old, LO accompanied us to my best friend's wedding. We only went for a short time and he stayed in his carseat for a majority of the time. Although we did let the bride hold him in order to get a picture of them together. It wasn't an event I was willing to miss, so having him come with us was necessary. All was fine

we went to the pedi at 3 days old and were going to make a target run but I was really weak. we went to BRU when she was a week old.

We kept lo out of stores, crowds and public places until she got her 2 month shots with the exception of my sister's wedding which was less then 25 people and we still stayed off in the corner.
We still left the house. We went to family and friends houses and to the park, we would go to areas where people weren't around.

We didn't wait with either kid. We stopped by the store on our way home from the hospital with DD, and we went bowling the day after we got home with DS.

I can't remember exactly but I think around 3 days old we went out. We had lots of visitors in the first few days. He was EBF so that made it easier to go out too.

we were told to keep away from crowded areas til she got her first shots. we did go out for drive though and to the pediatricians office.
