I'm going through all of my gifts and seeing if I was given too much of anything so I can return those items for things we would rather have/need. I was given 5 hooded towels and 24 washcloths (3 sets of washcloths). Is that too many towels and washcloths?
How many towels do you really need? I wash our towels once a week, so I'm thinking I wouldn't wash baby's towels more than that, unless they got really gross for whatever reason

You don't need that many washcloths. But I think that is a good amount of towels.

We use wash cloths as cloth wipes, so I would say 24 is a good amount if you plan to do that.
We have 2 hooded towels and find that to be enough!

Honestly, I only use the hooded towels for the cuteness factor. I think almost all of them are too thin to do much good. We just use regular towels. Same for the washcloths, too. Baby washcloths are just so flimsy, I didn't feel they were doing anything. We use one towel per kid, and it gets washed once a week. Ditto for the washcloths.
Granted, now I feel like I'm being gross or something, and washing/drying my kids with filthy things. Damn.

I think that is too many washcloths. We have about 6 hooded towels, but 3 are thin and we don't use those ones much. She uses her towel a couple of times before I was it, so there's not really a need for too many, for us at least.

We were given 3 hooded towels, but LO outgrew the 1st one within 4 months. We still have the other 2, but we also just use regular towels. That's a lot of washcloths though! I would keep 5 (I have 4 that I rotate through every week).

I used the washcloths as wipes, so I would keep those. I wouldn't wash all of them at once though, maybe half and keep the other half for when the current ones get dingy.
I had 4 bath towels, which was perfect for our daily bath/laundry routine.

With our first we only had 2 and that wasn't quite enough, but then we had 4 with our second and routinely one doesn't get used so I would say 3 towels. For washcloths I would keep about a dozen. In addition to bath time I like using them for when I need to wipe their face with a tad of water or after starting solids to clean up their face/hands and not get a full sized towel dirty.

I think 2-3 towels is fine, but I like having a lot of wash cloths. I use two every time; one for lo to chew on, one for washing.

@meganmp: we do pretty much exactly what you do as well!.... If we ruin our kids because of this, they can start a support group together

We have 2 towels for LO too (he's 14 months now), and LOTS and LOTS of washcloths. dozens....
we use the washcloths for drying his bum after using wipes, and a different set for wiping his hands and mouth after eating etc. We have fluffier ones (bum) and thinner ones (face/hands/bath).
The 2 towels we have are just slightly smaller versions of adult towels. I found the baby towels way too small as I wanted to really bundle and dry him well. Esp as he got older and bigger!
In your case I might return a hooded towel or two, but if you have the room i guess it doesn't hurt to have them around!

I think that 3-4 towels would be fine. We have more than that, but do enough laundry that they just don't get used. We do, however, use a TON of washcloths. We wet them and wipe down LO after her meals so we easily go through 2-4, depending on the day.

I think the answer for your towels depends on if they are the thin baby ones or the thick big ones that will last through young childhood. If they are the thin ones I say return them all or maybe keep 1-2 (I found they absorbed so little that I wound up soaked when I used them.) If they are the thick ones I would keep them all especially if you plan to have more children. If you don't have another shower then you still have two towels per kid which seems like a good number.
For washcloths, if you just plan on using them as washcloths it is far too many. I think they come in handy for wiping crusty noses, I keep a stack in the kitchen for messy hands and faces and they are a nice option for cloth wipes too.

We ended up with so many hooded towels (7!) I think 3-4 would have been fine. We also got a lot of washcloths. One was a pack of 20 or something like that. But I still ended up buying some myself because the gifted ones kind of suck. But we go through them like crazy, like reusable tissues. They are everywhere in our house and in bags. Spit up, drool, washing face and hands - there's always a need for our washcloths. I wouldn't return those.

Thanks guys! One is thick and one (got 3 of that kind) is thin, one is a set with washcloths. I'll just return the set and the some of the thinner ones. I'll keep most of the washcloths in case.
