We are pretty much ready with everything we need for baby, but I just realized we only have 5 burp cloths (and no laundry in apartment...). What is the sweet spot for burp cloths assuming 1/week laundry trip? We have lots of little flannel receiving blankets and 12 A&A blankets, but I think we will definitely need more burp cloths...I realize every baby is different, but what has worked for you?

Whoa you have *12* A&A?! I was annoyed today because we accidentally ended up with 9 (and no velcro swaddlemes) so I went online and bought a pack of those too!

but right now I think we have 6 burp cloths along with the 9 A&As and no receiving blankets.

My lo had reflux..... So we used a ton. I couldn't imagine doing laundry once a week, she was constantly spitting up. Hopefully you wont have a reflux baby!

It sounds to me like you have enough stuff to use as burp cloths - the flannel blankets, 6 burp cloths and the 12 blankets. You could always cut up some of the blankets to give you more burp cloths. I had 22 and they were necessary for our major spitter.

We have 10 right now and I'm about to open another package. We use them for all sorts of things.

OOf I cannot imagine only doing 1 laundry trip a week! I swear we have a load in every night and he isn't even a huge spitter. We have them stashed around the house where ever we hang out/play for random incidents and then I use an a+a blanket for every nursing session. I tuck it under his chin for any dribbles (and when he was tiny I bunched it under his head to help stabilize) and then I flip it over me to burp him. So 12 of them would be great; usually once a day I swap!

We have 12 prefold diapers that we use as burp clothes, but we hardly ever used them...LO RARELY spits up, both now and as a newborn. I think he is the exception and not the norm though...

I think we have 2 dozen. We go through anywhere from 2-5 each day, some because of spitting up and some because they fall on the floor.

@Hilsy85: That's so nice! J is better about it now, but there was a time around 4-5 months or so when he was a live grenade after each feeding!

@artbee: Oh man, me too. I probably went through at least 10 a day for months. And they were soaked through. By 6 months, I think we still needed no less than 5 a day. At a year, I still carry 2. Reflux sucks so bad.
@maybebaby: Hopefully your little one won't have reflux, but I still wouldn't count on less than 3 a day for a while.

I think we had around 8 burp clothes and at least 12 a and a blankets. i preferred to use them as burp clothes over the ones we had.

I didn't even think much of burp cloths before baby! I bought a dozen teeny tiny washcloths and then we received a dozen more. I use those for everything! I think I must use 6 a day at least! Later, I received the one-pack of burp cloths (5) I registered for and I use those now a LOT! I do a load of laundry at least every other day and that's been enough, but I feel like you could never have too many of the burp cloths or tiny washcloths! But I also have a spitter/drooler/reflux baby.

I think we have a dozen? But seriously, you can't have enough of these. They're great for everything.

We use a ton and probably have 25 prefold dipes. We use them ALOT!

We started with 12 and I bought 12 more of the flat cloth diapers. My baby spits up a ton and we were doing laundry so often. I think 18-24 is the ideal number for us to avoid doing laundry more than once a week. The receiving blankets work well for burp rags too. You can cut them up too.

I like to use big soft hand towels as burp clothes when I'm around the house. When she spits up I can fold over and use a few more times before I throw in the wash. And they protect my clothes better. Those small burp cloths are useless.

Sounds like it really depends, but I think I may invest in some more just in case...we also have a TON of bibs (got the hand-me-down motherload), so hopefully those will come in handy if we have a spitter/have to deal with reflux.

We bought a ton of these grovia cotton wipe cloths and use them as burp cloths and wash cloths. They are so soft!

We never used them. We just used flannel receiving blankets. They worked great! I think we have maybe 8 receiving blankets?

I think we have around 12 but I do laundry almost every other day. For one laundry trip a week I'd probably plan on 3-5 per day.

We used 12 prefold cloth diapers + 3 of the things that are actually sold as "burp cloths" (they don't work well). We washed them when they started to sink, not necessarily with each use. We washed them maybe 2 or 3 times a week, so if you only want to wash them twice a week, I'd definitely get at least 24.

i have a dozen plain white ones and a lot of nice ones that i was gifted. LO doesn't spit up much at all, so just the dozen is more than enough.

Gerber prefold diapers are better than anything that's marketed as a burp cloth. Our reflux baby is seven months old and I still go through 4-5 a day!

We have 20 of the Gerber prefold diapers plus 8 A&A blankets. I found that was a good sweet spot for us because we'd end up with a burp cloth on the couch, one in his pack n play in the living room, a couple in his room, a couple in our bedroom, a couple in my diaper bag, one in the car... it's just hard to keep track of those things so having a lot helped.
We also use them on the changing table if he has a diaperless accident and we don't want to change the changing pad cover until after we finish with him.

OK, I just ordered another 10 Gerber cloth diapers, so we have 15 of those to use as burp clothes, about 10 flannel receiving blankets and 12 A&A. And a million bibs thanks to hand-me-downs. Hopefully, that should suffice for now!
