We only have one car, so we have two convertible car seats now (lo1 is forward facing in a maxi cosi pria we’ve had since she grew out of her infant seat and lo2 is rear facing in a clek foonf which is the best thing I have ever won in a raffle lol) and used to have one infant bucket (ub mesa). Mil bought a maxi cosi a long time ago to have in her car for when we visit but it’s a total waste since she keeps in off-site storage now that she moved to an apt so when we visit the girls just go in our car. When we visit my fam, we borrow seats from my brothers family

@bhbee: HAHA yes. It kinda is, and it's so satisfying when the deal can be had! Between this and the $99 Weber I got last year, I've been doing good with the Walmart deals!

Prices indicate fanciness and popularity, not safety.
The Carseat Lady often recommends the cosco scenara as a travel or spare car seat because of price and it is lightweight. And she is the absolute expert on car seat safety. She would not recommend a car seat if it was unsafe and she would certainly disclose if something was less safe because of price.

Oh sorry to answer original question - we have 2 kids and one car. But we’re in a city so rely on cabs and Uber’s a ton.

4.5yo has a chicco myfit harness booster in our car. We also have a britax harnessed booster (forget what it’s called, frontier???) in my in-laws but the only reason we got something a little more expensive was because we needed it to be a super easy seatbelt install. It is a no brainer for them.
We also just got him the Ride Safer Vest for travel which I am super psyched to try out on a trip next week. No more lugging a seat for him.

For my 11mo he’s still in a bucket - the Nuna Pipa which I got 50% off in a Black Friday sale. We are able to use it with base in our car or with seatbelt in cabs/Uber’s/rentals.
When he outgrows he will use the chicco nextfit that was my older sons before booster in our car.

For travel convertible seat we have a Safety1st which we got cheap at Walmart. I like that it still has some of the cushy features of a more expensive seat but it’s still a good deal. We used it for travel for my older son and liked it a lot, so we will keep it for my younger one - travel/cabs/etc once he outgrows bucket.

@PurplePumps: you should start a new thread about where you find great deals!

We started out with three Chicco NextFits (all purchased on sale over the course of the fourteen months LO spent in a second hand KeyFit) - one in my car, one in DH's, and one in my mom's, as she watches LO frequently.

About six months after we started using the NextFits, someone hit and totaled my car. Insurance reimbursed me for the car seat, and I bought a Graco SlimFit for my mom's car and moved her NextFit into my car. About a year later, someone hit my new car (not totaled, thank goodness), and insurance again reimbursed me for the car seat. I bought a Safety1st Grow and Go EX Air for my car. So now we have one Chicco, one Graco, and one Safety1st.

Both of the replacement seats were chosen at least partially because I found good sales (discontinued colors, car seat trade in events, etc.), but I like both of them better than the (more expensive) NextFit. I didn't have any complaints about it when it was the only seat we had, but now I realize just how HEAVY it is, and the high sides made it more challenging to get LO in and out, particularly in my sedan. Plus, both of the cheaper seats have higher rear-facing weight limits! LO has never expressed a preference between the three seats.

Amazon often has great sales on extend2fits! I got one of ours for $107. My husband and I each have an E2F in our cars. We got a less expensive seat for my parents who drive him rarely.
