Thanks for the suggestions on my other thread. We put some thought into this over the weekend and I'm trying to decide whether we want our new gas range/oven to be double-oven or dual-fuel. We want to stick under $2K so can't really do both. I'm torn. If we did double oven we'd probably go with one that has true convection.

I have a range similar to this one (ours is a slightly older model) and love it. The double ovens are great during the holidays when we're hosting everyone and need to bake a lot of side dishes.

I'm imagining a dual oven would be useful for us primarily because we would only need to use one oven the vast majority of the time, and therefore could use less gas (and heat the house less). But we are one of those families that uses our warming drawer to store cookie sheets, so we'd need to find a cabinet to move those into.

We have a double oven, double range, and grill + griddle. It is game changing if you love to cook. The double oven is the feature I'd pick if you can only choose one, based on the convenience of being able to use one for cooking and one for baking/warming without blending flavors, or just cooking at two different temperatures at once.

@PinkElephant: Most of the options I've been looking at have the griddle (/wok burner) in the center as the fifth burner. We do cook a lot. What's a double range?

@PawPrints: I have a double oven range and I still use it for storage...it's just in the oven, not the drawer. I mainly use the top one (we're only a family of 3 and I don't bake much).
Truthfully, I don't cook complicated things. I can cook on gas or electric and most of the time, I'll tell you I prefer gas even though I secretly love the electric cooktop for ease of keeping it clean.

@PawPrints: our ovens are side by side, not stacked, so double range means we have six stovetop burners plus the griddle and grill. I never really use more than three pots at once, so we didn't need this many, but I can be nice to spread out if two of us are cooking on burners at once.

@PinkElephant: Oh cool. We're limited to 30 inches where our existing (electric) range is though, so probably could not swing that setup.

I think we are going to go with double oven. Narrowed it down to a Samsung, an LG, or a Whirlpool.
(Also still toying with spring the extra bucks for a slide-in, but it seems hard to justify.)

Oh one other question - has anybody mixed stainless appliances with black stainless? I like the look of a black stainless range but not totally sure how it would look with our stainless fridge/sink/dishwasher, which are all on the opposite side of the kitchen. I feel like it would look okay; I approve of mixing materials in general (we have a rustic light-wood china cabinet next to an espresso dining table). Crazy that black stainless costs an extra $100 more than silver stainless though.

@PawPrints: Our oven and dishwasher are both black and our fridge is stainless. I think they all look fine together.

I have the LG one (electric) but I really like the look of the last one, with those continual grates.
