I'm sending LO1 to preschool next year and am a bit overwhelmed by the options! I'm lucky in that I have flexible childcare otherwise so not sure what would be best for him.

We do one full day in the summer but we are switching to 3 full days in the fall.

@fuzzypeaches: will your LO be starting kindergarten in 2017 or 2018? I'm assuming this is Lo's first time in a "school" environment?
If K in 2017 then I would jump straight to 5 days at 3 hours each.
If K in 2018 then 2 days then 5 days the following year.

LO1 started off in an afternoon program for a little over 2 hours a day for 4 days a week when he was 3. The following year he advanced to the next program, which was from 8:45 - 2:00 Monday through Thursday and 8:45 - 12:00 on Fridays. It is a play based school, and he really enjoyed the environment and teachers (University affiliated lab preschool with a lot of student teachers to help in the classroom).

At age 4, my son was in a half day program, 5 days a week. It was the afternoons from 12 -3. He wasn't napping at that point. That year there wasn't an option for a full day, the school offered morning and afternoon, but they've since switched to full day (9-1).
Before that, he was in a camp program for the summer months, from 9-12, also 5 days a week.
For him, it worked to be there 5 days, because he had a hard time with transitions.

We haven't started yet but in my ideal world LO will do 3 half days this year (3 years old), and 5 half days next year (4 years), then full time kindergarten when she is 5. She's a late July birthday and will be among the youngest but I think she will be fine.
But we are moving at some point so I haven't been able to research or sign up, so who knows what we will get!

@fuzzypeaches: LO1 will be 3 in October and we are starting her with 2, 3 hour days. She won't start kinder until she's almost 6 so we have plenty of time for school.

My LO is doing 3 days for 3 hours a day this fall.... He's going to do 5 days the year before kindergarten.

That's what I was thinking too! I have the option of two days (afternoons) in a great place and 5 mornings in a meh place and don't know which is better!
