LO will be 3 and is going to preschool 9 hours per week. I was chatting with some friends that don't live near me and their preschool program is several more hours per week than ours. I'm really curious what the norm is in other areas.

That's not even 2 hours a day! I hope your preschool is really close.
40 hours, in the fall she will be in the preschool room at daycare. My local school district free preschool is only 2.5 hours a day so, 12.5 hours a week. With both of us WOH full time it's not worth it to send her there.

@Mamaof2: that's awesome! If mine was at least that it would be a serious contender if we could convince my ILs to watch her for 3-4 hours in the afternoon.

I am a WAHM, so B is going to preschool full day T - Th. But PT programs are normally 3 hours a day.

Ours is 3 days a week and 2 1/2 hours a day. It's a special ed preschool though, so most kids have an IEP. Just enough time for me to run a few errands with E.

M will be in the 3-4 class so she'll be going 9am-1pm two days / week (so 8 hours / week). The following year she'll go 3 days / week so 12 hours.
I only WOH part time so we're not really looking to use it as childcare.

DS will be attending T/Th for 4.5 hours each day. He could go as long as 8-2:30pm but I'm home those days so I don't need him to go as long.

The 2.5-3.5yo class is 9-11:30 two days a week. The 3.5-5 classrooms are 9-1 two to three days a week. Obviously this isn't a daycare setting, more ideal for parents who SAH or WAH.

DS goes for 4 hours twice a week. Although I just wrote to the director to ask if I could add a day because dammit, a toddler and a newborn are HARD, and I'm supposed to start working from home again next month.
It used to be 3 hours/day, which I actually liked better, but that's no longer an option.

DS will be going to a preschool with extended day care. He'll be there 45-50 hours a week. The preschool part of the day is about 2.5 hours each day.

@regberadaisy: oh it's just Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so 3 hours a day.

Tuesday mornings for 2.5 hours starting in sept. He will just be 18 months.

My 2 year old is starting a preschool program Aug 1, just for the fall semester while I'm on mat leave. It's Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-3 pm.

Ours is 9 hours a week, also. 3 hours, 3 times a week.
I REALLY wish it was longer, like maybe three 5-hour classes every week, but I couldn't find anything like that!
9-12 seems to be the norm for 3-year olds.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Yeah I was hoping for a little bit longer too. By the time I get home and get into doing something or run errands I have to be right back, it seems like. I'd even take 2 longer days over 3 shorter days.

Ours is just 6 hours a week - 2 days. That is pretty standard for the sahm in my town.

Oreschool full time-9-330 daily. I'm not including late and early care. They are there 730 to 530.

Our preschool (all preschools in England actually) offer 15 hours per week once the child turns 3, so five days per week for 3 hrs each day. I'd actually prefer only three mornings per week but the norm is five days. We have an afternoon spot (12:30-3:30) but they also have mornings as well (8:30-11:30).

Ours functions as a daycare basically so R (2.5) goes 2 days for 8.5 hours a day!

My preschooler is in Montessori preschool, which is typically 5 days a week. Our school is 4.5 hours a day for 3-5 year olds.

3 year old kinder starts in january for us - it is only 5 hours a week (2 sessions). Once she starts 4 year old kinder in 2017 it will be 15 hours.

45-50 hours a week. The pre-school program is 9a to 3:45p + early drop off at 8:30 and extended day. We both WOH.

24 hrs a week when he starts 3 year old preschool. Right now he attends for 12 hrs a week at MDO (6 hrs a day 2 days a week)

I WOH, but am not using it for daycare. He will be in a 3s class and with early care can start as early as 6:30am (realistically between 7-8am) and then will be picked up by my mom at noon. We are starting him with two days a week and will move up to three days a week after the first six months or so.

DD is 4 and goes to school 4 days a week for 3.5 hours/day.
In the fall she'll go 5 days a week for 4 hours/day.

LO will likely continue to preschool at our current daycare, so it will be 40-45 hrs per week.
pear / 1961 posts
Most of the true preschools I looked at (not daycare with preschool curriculum) are 3ish hours/day for 2-3-4-or-5 days a week. But several of them that just have a morning slot also offer an optional lunch hour (12-1) or optional afternoon programming (1-3) so you can extend the day to a more traditional school day if you want.
ETA: most of the Montessori schools offer morning (830-1130), afternoon (1230-330), or full day (830-330). We were enrolling late bc of a move and couldn't do full day Montessori like we did this year for 3 days a week

LO goes to a preschool for part-time daycare. 9am-3pm with before & after care so the day can be as long as 7am-5pm. You can send your LO 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 days. LO goes 2 days right now with after care, not before care. She's almost 2.

9am-3pm with before and after care 3x a week!

We are not there yet, but a lot of the preschools around us are either MWF or Tu-Th from 9-11:30. That seems to be pretty standard, from what I've seen. Some also have lunch options. We will probably use our daycare preschool, but I would also consider one of the two nature preschool programs our city is starting!

@LovelyPlum: We are doing nature preschool! So excited!
Ours is afternoons, 3 hours/day, 3 days/week. The school is s hike from us so I was hoping to get her in the 2/day program but it was full.

DS is 3 and will be going 5 hours a week... It's 9-11:30 two mornings a week. The following year he will do more but I'm not sure what yet. I think they offer 3 mornings or 4 afternoons for the older age.

ours is a 2 day program for 3 hours at age 2. at 3 it goes to 3 day and at 4 it's 5 day.
